crafting with grandma . . . a Science Experiment! Ivory Soap Clouds!

Over the years I have loved making crafts with my "almost-grandchildren" and they enjoyed these crafts, too. But they also loved the science experiments we did together, so today I want to share one of my all-time favorite science experiments with you! It is very simple, but be sure to stress with your grandchildren they are not to try this experiment without an adult! Be very sure you stress this . . . I showed this experiment to three children a few years ago - I thought I stressed how important it was for them to only try this experiment with an adult, but apparently I didn't stress it strongly enough! The children went home and as they were getting ready for bed they heard a huge "kaboom!!!!" Their dad ran to the kitchen to find smoke coming out of the microwave while Gabe said, "Hmmm. I wonder if that could be my science experiment??" It was.Enjoy this experiment - Ivory Soap Clouds with your grandchildren -

Supplies -
  • Ivory bar soap - MUST be Ivory!
  • paper towels
  • microwave oven
Directions -
  • place the Ivory soap on folded paper towel in your microwave
  • set microwave for two to three minutes and run on high
  • watch and be amazed!
The Ivory soap will "puff" up into amazing "clouds" of soap! It is great fun to watch and your house will smell like Ivory soap . . . which is one of my all-time favorite aromas! Have fun and lead your grandchildren in praising God for creating them so they can enjoy things like making Ivory soap clouds! :^)
