grandma's movie reviews - Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl

reviewed Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides when it released last year, so I thought I'd take a few moments to review the three previous Pirate's Movies - beginning with Pirates Of The Caribbean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl . . .

Pirates Of The Caribbean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl
By - Disney
Rated PG-13 for action/adventure violence

Favorite Features -
  • begins the story by introducing Captain Jack, Captain Barbossa, Will and Elizabeth along with the pirate "crew"
  • Sets the "standard" high for a movie with Jack's great escapes, incredible music, lots of action and sword fighting
  • certainly provides opportunities to talk with your children about several important messages included in this movie
I love the music, the action and the story telling in this Pirate's movie, but I do have to say this movie is NOT for young children because there are intense and frightening images in it. But for older children, teens and adults, this is a fun story.

I especially like how this movie showed the truth of how when we make poor decisions, there are consequences. The pirates under Barbossa, stole a chest of gold - unknown to them the gold was "cursed" and so they also ended up "cursed". They had to go to great lengths to find all the gold they squandered and return it to break the "curse". This gives grandparents and parents a wonderful opportunity to talk with their grandchildren/children about the choices they make. Be sure to also take advantage of this opportunity by leading your grandchildren/children in talking with God about helping them learn to be wise so they will make wise decisions.

Pirates of the Caribbean:The Curse of the Black Pearl is sure to keep your attention and leave you ready to watch Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest!
