grandma's movie reviews . . . Pirates of the Caribbean - Dead Man's Chest

I reviewed Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides when it released last year, so I thought I'd take a few moments to review the three previous Pirate's Movies - this one is about Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest . . .

Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
By - Disney

Rated - PG-13 for intense sequences of adventure violence, including frightening images

Favorite Features -
  • continues the story from the first Pirates movie
  • return of characters - Captain Jack, Will and Elizabeth along with a new crew of characters, including Davy Jones
  • incredible sets and costumes
This absolutely is NOT a movie for children, so grandparents and parents, provide the guidance this movie is rated for. I really liked the first Pirates movie, but this one left me feeling like I needed to see the third movie to know if I really liked it. There are definitely parts in this movie I found to be tremendously well done - the time on the cannibal island and escaping from Davy Jones's crew, but the ending of this movie was "unsatisfactory" - most likely because this movie clearly connects the first and third movies so it really doesn't have an ending . . . yet. It did leave me looking forward the the third movie.

Once again, this move provides opportunities for grandparents and parents to talk with their grandchildren/children about important messages this move has in it's storyline. There are certainly characters who have no character. Ask your grandchildren/children what they think of each of the main characters and the choices they made in the story. Ask them what they would do if they were these characters and how they might have made better choices. There are strong messages about loyalty - be sure to talk with your grandchildren/children about this, too.

After you watch this movie, schedule time to complete the story by watching Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End.
