crafting with grandma - One-Eyed Monster Hats!

I have two, too-sweet-for-words grandsons (although I'm never at a loss for words to talk about them!), so when we make up stories and play, our stories and playtime often involve monsters!

Recently when the boys were here Josiah ran up to me and said, "Grandma! There is a scary monster in the hall!!!!" I asked him what color it was and he said, "Pink! and Red! and Pink and Red!!! And every color in the world!!!!" I asked him if it was teeny, tiny or ginormous, humongous! He said, "The most ginormous EVER!!!!" I asked him if it had tiny, little teeth or big, spiky, sharp teeth! He said, "The biggest, spikiest, sharpest, EVER!!!! I asked him what sound it made and he wanted me to tell him, so I said, "RRRROOOAAARRR!!!" Josiah said, "That's NOT a scary sound." I said, WWWWOOOOFFFFF, WOOOOFFFFF!!!". He said, "Dogs say 'woof, woof' and dogs are NOT scary." So, I said, "Booga, boooga, boooga, wacka, wacka, wacka, boogga, booogga!" He said, "That's it! That's the scariest sound EVER and that's the sound the monster makes!!!" Then he ran off with a happy smile!

Personally, if the most ginormous EVER pink and red monster with the biggest, spikiest, sharpest teeth EVER was in my hallway saying, "Booga, booga, booga, wacka, wacka, wacka, booga, booga!" I would definitely NOT be smiling!  :-)

Caleb is one year old and one of his favorite things to do is to "growl" or "roar"! Of course when he is doing this, he has the biggest, most adorable smile on his face! I LOVE his "roars"! :-)

So, when I think about making a crocheted hat for my grandsons, of course the first thing I thought of was a one-eyed monster hat! I looked on-line and found a monster hat pattern which I modified by giving it just one eye and adding ear-flaps . . . it does get cold in Michigan! I also crocheted a heart which I sewed to the back - I put hearts on everything I crochet for the boys! Although, this year I'll probably put Josiah's heart inside the hat since he is getting older and is a boy! I will probably add a tooth and spikes to the heads once I have both hats finished! Check this link for the pattern and have fun making monster hats for your sweet little ones! :-)
