grandma's movie review - Ice Age Continental Drift - I'm Giving One Away!

When it comes to animated movie series, who hasn't heard of the unlikely "herd" comprised of the Mammoth, Manny, Diego, the saber-tooth tiger and the sloth, Sid? In the newest release of the Ice Age series, these three return along with Manny's wife Ellie and daughter Peaches as they are faced with continental drift!

Fox says, "Sub-zero heroes Manny, Diego, and Sid embark upon a high-seas adventure after their continent is set adrift. Using an iceberg as a ship, they encounter sea creatures and battle pirates as they try to reunite with their herd. In the wake of these upheavals, Sid reunites with his cantankerous Granny, and the herd encounters a ragtag menagerie of seafaring pirates determined to stop them from returning home."

While I completely could have done without the "sirens" in Ice Age: Continental Drift - they made the movie too scary for my grandsons to see for a few years for sure - I do like the opportunity this movie gives you to talk with your older grandchildren/children about family, friends and what to do when you find yourself in an unexpected and even frightening situation. In this movie the animals are facing the literal break-up of their world as continental drift causes the land to break apart. While it doesn't talk about turning to God when facing difficult and frightening situations, you certainly could talk with your grandchildren/children and ask them what they would do if they faced a difficult and frightening situation.

I really like how family is held up as something which is very valuable. I'm also happy to see strong messages about how friends stand up for one another and aren't based on looks. Oh, and, I love the whale!!!

I'm happy to share some free down-loadable Ice Age activity sheets! Have fun with your grandchildren as you play Sudoku and the Draw Challenge Game

Not only did Fox send me a DVD to review, but they are making a Blu-ray available for me to give away - USA and Canada only! If you are over the age of 18 and would like to be included in this give-away, which will be on December 11, 2012 - please comment below to let me know if you have followed on Google Friend Connect, followed by liking on facebook with the tab in the "Find us on Facebook" box ON THE BLOG (not just liking the post) and/or have followed grandma's cookie jar by email.
