grandma's movie reviews - Madly Madagascar

Get ready for the return of Alex, Marty, Melman and Gloria in the new Madly Madagascar short which releases on January 29, 2013! As Fox says, "Your favorite Madagascar pals are back in an all-new adventure! Alex’s favorite holiday, Valentine’s Day, brings hilarious surprises and excitement for the entire gang. Melman plans a big surprise for Gloria, Marty tries to impress a new friend and everyone wants to get their hands on King Julien’s love potion. You'll fall in LOVE with Madly Madagascar!"

Madly Madagascar
Not Rated

Before I begin with the things I did like, I do want to say, this movie has a lot of innuendo which I personally believe is completely inappropriate. Children are the ones who will primarily watch this movie and they will not understand the innuendo - and if they do, it is a sad thing. Why put these things in the movie? They do not make it better; quite the opposite. There are plenty of things in this movie which are funny . . . the places where there is innuendo do not rate among the funny.

Favorite Features -
  • Return of Alex, Melman, Marty, Gloria, the Penguins and Lemurs for some familiar silliness with a Valentine's Day "flavor"
  • New character - an Okapi - I think Okapis are so unique, interesting and fun; glad to see one in the film!
  • In and between all the silliness, there is a message about what and who is really important - "It's not about how many cards you get, but who you get them from!"
  • I also liked the message in this quote from the penguins; "I used to think Valentine's Day was just a superficial holiday for sissies, wussies and pansies. But now I realize buying cheap flowers or some pre-packaged chocolate isn't just a whacked-out merchandising conspiracy, it's also just a nice thing to do."
  • Includes two shorts - Hammy’s Boomerang Adventure and First Flight . . . which I loved!
I didn't like some of the messages in the movie, but it does give you several things you can talk about with your grandchildren; such as what they do to show they love others . . . not just on Valentine's Day, but all year long!

After you watch First Flight, be sure to talk with your grandchildren about how real joy and freedom is found when we give fully of ourselves and serve others!
