grandma's bookshelf - Monkey and Elephant Get Better

Last year I had the opportunity to review a cute book for children; Monkey and Elephant. I said, "this book celebrates friendship . . . and shows the challenging parts . . . like when one of you is 'too sassy' and the other one is 'too cranky' . . . along with the wonderful parts . . . 'I like you just right!'" So, when I saw another "Monkey & Elephant" book released this year, well, I was very happy for the opportunity to review it!

Monkey and Elephant Get Better
Author - Carole Lexa Schaefer
Illustrator - Galia Bernstein
Publisher - Candlewick Press
Ages - 5+

Favorite Features -
  • Again, I LOVE the illustrations - fun, colorful and unique!
  • Once again, I LOVE the dialog between Monkey and Elephant
  • LOVE the strong messages about being yourself and caring for others
This book will give grandparents/parents and children a lot to talk about! I like it when Monkey asks Elephant not to copy her because, "you are you and I am me. We are not just the same." I like how in the end of the book Elephant says, "We're both pretty good at what we do!" Talk together about the unique and special ways God created each of you and take time to praise Him for those things! Be sure to also talk about how Monkey cares for Elephant when he is sick and then Elephant cares for Monkey when she is sick. If you know someone who isn't feeling well, talk about what you can all do to help them feel better and then do it!

Enjoy! Once again, Monkey and Elephant is not only a cute and enjoyable book, but it is one which gives us great things to talk about together with the children in our lives!
