grandma's bookshelf - Hey God, I've Got Some Guy Named Jonah In My Stomach and I Think I'm Going to Throw Up! - I'm Giving One Away!

Yes, Jonah and the Whale is a Bible account which has been told again and again and again, but perhaps never from the "perspective" of the whale! This is one of the things which makes this book so enjoyable . . . the other is the humor with which the whale's "story" is told! I - and my husband and daughter - laughed all the way through this book! I'm definitely looking forward to reading it to Josiah and Caleb on Thursday!

Favorite Features -
  • Retells the account of Jonah from the "perspective" of the whale

  • Story is told with great doses of humor - children and grandparents/parents will enjoy this book!
  • Fun illustrations
If your response to books about Jonah is, "Oh no. Not ANOTHER book about Jonah." Don't worry! This is a book you will enjoy reading to your grandchildren and one they will want to have read to them! I loved the humor . . . God asks the whale to swallow a human, but the whale's response is; "I couldn't  believe my tiny ears. A human? But they live on land. Land creatures taste like dirt. Yeeeccch. I can't do it, I said. And then I realized I had just told God, no. My only thought was to get out of there, pronto. So I swam as fast as I could as far away as I could. I thought I would be safe once I got out of there - until - gaagggkk! Something got stuck in my throat. What was this? It was awful. It tasted . . .  it tasted like . . .dirt. Oh no."  Can you see why I say this book has great doses of humor?!!!

The whale's story goes on with how he hears Jonah yelling and praying and calling out to God - finally Jonah prays and asks God for forgiveness for running away from Him. This reminds the whale he did the same thing. The story goes on with how the Whale learns to trust God and finally gets to throw Jonah up . . . "along with everything else he had eaten that week. It was disgusting." Again, the humor!!!

I really love how Hey God, I've Got Some Guy Named Jonah in My Stomach and I Think I'm Gonna Throw Up! focuses on trusting God and how whenever we feel like we've "messed up, whenever we feel like we're far away from God and His love, remember Jonah's words, spoken from the belly of a whale: 'I called to the Lord in my distress, and He answered me." (Jonah 2:2) Enjoy this book with your grandchildren and be sure to have the conversations with them about how they can choose to obey and trust God!
