Favorite Thing to Do . . . Grandma Contest!!!

I love to spend time with my grandsons . . . it doesn't really matter what we do, I just love to be with them! However; some of our current favorite things to do include the following . . .
  • playing hide-and-seek (they are still young) :-)
  • writing stories - Josiah has an amazing imagination and he loves to write stories! He tells me what to write, I write it and he illustrates the book! His momma has a wonderful collection of Josiah's stories and I have a couple he has written for me, too! They are among my most treasured possessions! :-) <3
  • science projects - both boys love helping with science projects - adding the ingredients and watching the results!
  • water gun "fights" - we recently bought a few water guns and the boys LOVE to play with them! Josiah tends to go with the "run-and-squirt" strategy and Caleb goes with the "cute" strategy . . . he runs up to you and says, "squirt, squirt, squirt - got you!" even though he has not mastered the technique of actually squirting the water gun yet!
  • I expect playing with the outdoor backyard ball run will be topping our favorite-things-to-do list very shortly!
Yes, we definitely have favorite things to do with our grandsons! What are your favorite things to do with your grandchildren? Is there an activity you love to do with them? Is there a special place you love to go to with them? Do you make special plans for the summer which involves creating memories with your grandchildren?

It has been a while since I had a "grandma contest", so I think it would be fun to have a "favorite things to do with my grandchildren" idea contest! Just comment below with your favorite thing to do with your grandchildren . . . do you have a game you love to play, a favorite recipe you love to prepare together, a special place you love to go together, do you plan special days each Summer for activities you do together . . . what do you do together?

I'll give you all of June to share your favorite thing to do with your grandchildren and then throughout July we will vote on the ideas we might like to try with our grandchildren. Whoever gets the most votes will win a prize package . . . it will be fun! So . . . what is your favorite thing to do with your grandchildren?

  1. Our house is where the grandchildren get to paint, color and do anything else artistic. Their parents don't like the mess. I say, how else are they supposed to learn if they don't try it? My favorite thing to do is let them help make up a batch of silly putty and then have a little contest to see who can make the neatest little figure. Of course, they all win. Also, jewelry making is fun and easy.

  3. So many things for me, too! With the 5 and 8 year old girls: we make banana bread. Even though the 5 yr old doesn't like to eat it, LOL! The 8 year old loves to spend "alone time" with me: playing an older game and writing stories about a giraffe. 5 year old: sitting on my lap playing a computer game. 3 year old: watching a particular Mickey SingALong. I comment and we clap and dance all the way through. 2 year old grandson: we walk and hold hands. 16 year old: play pool and go to golf driving range and eat out. BTW, with all the younger ones, big thing is children's music when in my car, so I'm very interested in any suggestions you have for that, particularly for small boy. This was fun, thanks.

  4. My favorite thing to do with my grandmother was make pasta. She used to make homemade orecchiette and we used to snatch them up and eat them while they were drying. She'd chase us off laughing. It was so much fun!

  5. We have so many "favorite" things to do with our grandchildren! They are now 7 and 9 years old. They do not live near us, but, we get them for a week or 2 each summer. Some of our favorite things to do are things that they don't get to do at home. We LOVE to catch lightning bugs in mason jars and then bring the jars in at night and watch them light up. We play hide and seek at night with Glo Sticks. It is so much fun hearing their giggles as I try to "find" them! We love to go on walks and pick up special rocks and sticks! We take coins and put them on the railroad tracks and then play at the park and wait for a train to "squash" the coins. Then, PawPaw puts a hole in them and makes them coin necklaces! We LOVE bringing the queen sized mattress of the bed into the den for Slumber parties! We have coke and pop corn and watch movies all night! They love waking up and having "coffee" with me in the mornings (mostly milk and sugar)but it is warm and in coffee mugs! We enjoy our "grands" so much! Each visit is a new adventure, but, these are things that they look forward to each visit!
