Summer Reading - 20 Big Trucks in the Middle of the Street

My son is a mechanic and you only need to spend a few minutes with my grandsons to know they share their dad's love for cars, trucks and especially, Jeeps! So, when Candlewick sent me their new book, 20 Big Trucks in the Middle of the Street, I knew Josiah and Caleb would love it!

20 Big Trucks in the Middle of the Street
Author - Mark Lee
Illustrator - Kurt Cyrus
Publisher - Candlewick
Ages - 3-5

Favorite Features -
  • Fun story about a big traffic jam when an ice cream truck breaks down in the middle of the street!
  • Encourages children to count, identify different types of trucks and use their imagination
  • Colorful illustrations add to the fun of this book!
If you have a grandson, this is a book they will likely love . . . after all, what isn't there to love about a book with 20 trucks in it?!!! Candlewick describes this book by saying, "'One ice-cream truck selling everything sweet, Breaks down and blocks the middle of our street.' If you are a little boy on a bike, an ice-cream truck on your street is always a welcome sight. But what if it the truck breaks down and blocks the mail truck behind it (now there are two), not to mention a third truck carrying hay? One by one, trucks of all types and sizes and functions are sure to pile up behind, offering ample opportunity for ogling—and counting. And maybe the boy’s idea for putting one of the trucks to good use might even save the day!" See why my grandsons loved this book?!!

If you read this to your grandchildren, go for a walk or a car ride and see how many different types of trucks you can find. If you take a camera with you, you could take photos and then print them when you get home and make your own book and story with the photos! Enjoy!
