grandma's bookshelf - Rufus Goes to School - I'm Giving One Away!

My sweet grandson Josiah begins kindergarten in a week . . . it is so hard to believe he is nearly five and off to school - the years have flown by for sure! So, when Sterling asked me if I'd be willing to review a new book which was a fun back-to-school read about a little pig who wanted to go to school and give my own opinion of it, I said I'd be delighted to do so! After all, what could be more fun than a pig who wants to go to school? :-)

Rufus Goes to School
Author - Kim T. Griswell
Illustrator - Valeri Gorbachev
Publisher - Sterling
Ages - 4-7

Favorite Features -
  • Great story about a pig who wants to go to school . . . very fun idea!
  • LOVE the illustrations!
  • Opens the door to conversations about what "piggish" behavior might look like and how it is not appropriate at school!
  • Great way to talk about what you need for school . . . backpack, lunchbox, blanket, book - what is most important?
  • Encourages dreaming - and taking action to make your dreams come true!
I LOVE this adorable story about a little pig who wants to go to school so he can learn to read! I love how he "trots" down the hall instead of "walks" down the hall to ask the principal if he can go to school and I love how he is persistent, polite and determined to gain access to the place which will help him be able to accomplish his dreams - even when the principal continues to say, "No pigs in school!" Children will LOVE Rufus and parents and grandparents will appreciate the opportunity this book gives to talk with their little ones about what is appropriate behavior in school and what is "piggish" behavior. Rufus Goes to School is a lot of fun and a great back-to-school book!

I am delighted to say not only did Sterling send me Rufus Goes to School for free to review, but they are making another available for me to give away! (USA only) If you are over the age of 18 and would like to be in the drawing for Rufus Goes to School, which will be on September 8, 2013,  please comment below to let me know if you have followed on Google+, Google Friend Connect, followed by liking on facebook with the tab at this link (not just liking the post) and/or have followed grandma's cookie jar by email.
