Special Month of Christmas Give-Aways - VeggieTales Merry Larry the True Light of Christmas!

I realize Veggie Tales: Merry Larry and the True Light of Christmasthe new Veggie DVD, has been out for a couple weeks, but my review copy just arrived and I am very happy to let you know all about it - if you haven't already been able to see it - and give one away as well!

If you have been reading grandma's cookie jar for a while you know I tend to be a fan of Veggie stories! I love how Big Idea is able to tell a story children will enjoy and understand while at the same time making it a story adults can enjoy and appreciate its humor as well! We all know of children's videos which we want to hide so our grandchildren do not watch them, but happily VeggieTales is not one of those! They use humor and creativity to tell a story with excellence and most importantly, share the very important message of how God made us special and He loves us very much!

In this new Veggie story, favorite Veggie characters are getting ready for Christmas . . . with all the Veggie silliness we have come to know and love! Bob - know as Phillip Fleagle in this story, is trying to decorate the mall like it has never been decorated before with lights, lights and more lights! While I can certainly identify with the idea of how we can never have enough Christmas lights on a tree (just ask my family!!!), I love how in this story a little girl helps everyone see how there is so very much more to Christmas than gifts and lights!

To add to all the Veggie silliness and fun, Big Idea added a new character this year; a lovable and wise okra janitor named Silas who narrates the story! Silas is voiced by Si Robertson from Duck Dynasty and adds a charm and humor everyone will love!

It is so easy to get caught up in all the excitement and "hoopla" of Christmas with the lights, decorations and gifts and while these things are fun, there is so very much more to Christmas. In Merry Larry and the True Light of Christmas, VeggieTales once again points us to the real meaning of Christmas and challenges us all to stop and think about what really matters; God loves us, Jesus came to be born as a baby the first Christmas so we can be forgiven and because of this, we can love and care for others - at Christmas and all year long!

I am very happy VeggieTales has once again not only shared a message about God's love and caring for others, but has provided the encouragement and opportunity for families to do so by teaming up with Samaritan's Purse's Operation Christmas Child. Families can show their love for others by packing a shoebox with gifts for a child in need! They just need to decide if they are packing a box for a girl or boy and the age of the child, then purchase a few items (the video has a clip with ideas for what to put in the box), print a label from Operation Christmas Child's website and take their packed box to a drop-off site!

As I mentioned above, not only did Big Idea send me one Merry Larry and the True Light of Christmas for review, but they are making another available for me to give away away on November 22, 2013 (USA only)! If you are 18 and older and would like to be in this drawing, please comment below to let me know what you will do to show love and care for others this Christmas and if you have followed on Google+, Google Friend Connect, followed by liking on facebook with the tab at this link (not just liking the post) and/or have followed grandma's cookie jar by email. For each of these which you have done you will receive one entry. In addition, if you "share" this post, you'll receive an additional entry (please let me know if you share!) This will help me be able to draw names from among people who would like to win Merry Larry and the True Light of Christmas and it gives you several ways to enter the give-aways!

  3. My son and I always pick out a child his age and gender that we "adopt" for christmas. I would love to be able to do a whole family one year. We always give and help others throughout the year. I believe giving joy helps you recieve joy and blessings. (littlesillysally at gmail.com)

  11. My daughter LOVES Veggie Tales!! We did an Operation Christmas box this year! She picked out everything for a girl her age (she is 2.5) and she had so much fun giving to "a girl in need". We plan to do Toys for Tots as well. This will be a Christmas tradition. And next year our youngest will participate as well.
