grandma's bookshelf - Snow Dance . . . I'm Giving One Away!

There are a few authors who have works which have endured through the years; Beatrix Potter, Dr. Seuss and Eric Carle are just a few whose names we recognize. Another is Richard Scarry who, according to wikipedia, has sold over 200 million copies of his books around the world!

So, when I was given the opportunity to review a couple of new books from the Richard Scarry's Great Big Schoolhouse series of readers for children, I was delighted to do so. Today I'm happy to share the first one with you . . . and announce a give-away as well!

Sterling Children's Books describes Snow Dance as follows: "Huckle and his friends do a dance for snow. Step left! Step right! Jump high! Jump low! Will their snow dance make it snow?Snow Dance is a fun first reader for little ones; I can't wait for Josiah to come over this week and see if he can give reading it a try! He is doing a great job of sounding out letters and spelling words, so I think he is ready to try reading a book like this!

Richard Scarry once said, "Everything has an educational value if you look for it. But it's the FUN I want to get across." His son, Huck, apparently embraces this belief of his dad because he definitely accomplishes this with his book, Snow Dance, as it is not only educational, but it is absolutely FUN! While this year here in Michigan we have no shortage of snow, after reading Snow Dance children everywhere will be inspired to start their own dance for snow so they can go sledding, too!

I'm very happy to say, not only has Sterling Children's Books sent me a copy of Snow Dance to review, but they are making another available for me to give away! I'll have the drawing for Snow Dance on January 15, 2014, so if you are over the age of 18, live in the USA and would like to be in the drawing for this fun book, comment below and share your favorite thing to do with snow when you were little! I liked to make snow-people or snow-angels . . . and then go back inside a warm house as I was not actually a huge fan of being in cold snow even when I was a child!

Additional entries in this give-away are available if you follow on Google+, Google Friend Connect, follow by liking on facebook with the tab at this link (not just liking the post) and/or have followed grandma's cookie jar by email. For each of these which you have done you will receive one entry. In addition, if you "share" this post, you'll receive an additional entry (please let me know if you share!) This will help me be able to draw names from among people who would like to win Snow Dance and it gives you several ways to enter the give-away!
