Countdown-to-Christmas - The Christmas Project - I'm Giving One Away!

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! I greatly enjoyed celebrating with my family and keeping my three grandsons for a sleep-over! Yesterday was busy and filled with joy!

So, today, I am very happy to start my "Countdown-to-Christmas" where each day I'm delighted to share with you a Christmas song I enjoy! Today, I'm sharing a song from the new release - The Christmas Project from former lead singer of Petra (my all-time favorite group), John Schlitt! (Just a note on the "side", years ago when we lived in Redding, CA, my husband provided transportation and security for concerts, When Petra came to town, he took our five year old son with him to the concert - Petra was his favorite! After the concert our son rode in the van with his dad to take the band to their hotel. These guys were tired after a long day and concert, but the took time to not only answer a little boy's questions, but to engage him in conversation! This mom was touched and impressed and they have been my favorite band ever since. They not only sang songs with "spunk" and excellence, but they were genuinely nice people!)

The Christmas Project is described as: "Grammy and Dove Award winning vocalist John Schlitt, one of the most distinctive voices in Christian music, has never recorded a Christmas song--until now. Schlitt's The Christmas Project is slated to release digitally and through online retailers November 19, with a brick and mortar retail store release to follow in 2014. The full-length CD is comprised primarily of beloved traditional Christmas carols, but this doesn't mean The Christmas Project is all egg nog and holly. This album rocks with the unmistakable John Schlitt style which legions of fans have come to know and love."

The Christmas Project has ten songs - most are familiar and loved carols with which you will be quick to join in and sing along - but be ready for some unique and special "touches" to these familar Christmas songs!

grandma's cookbook - Dairy-Free & Delicious Pancakes

Josiah and Caleb spent the night last night so this morning Josiah thought it would be great fun to have a pancake-eating contest! There was some "serious" "trash-talking" going on here between Josiah and Poppa about who would eat the most!

I was going to use my pancake mix for the panckaes, but it has milk in it and Caleb has a dairy sensitivity, so I pulled out my trusty Better Homes and Gardens cookbook and found a recipe which just needed a bit of tweaking to make it work. The pancakes were very tasty . . . Josiah "won" because after he ate four he said the contest was over! Then he said poppa ate the most, but he didn't realize the contest was over! Does that make it a tie? At any rate, we had fun and a tasty breakfast, too!

I'm happy to share this simple recipe with you for tasty dairy-free pancakes . . .

grandma's chuckles - What is Most Important & Good Choices

The last month has been a busy one around here . . . I've been busy making Perry and Minion hats for my grandsons, I'm currently about half-way through making a stocking for Shane . . . it has about a kazillion sequins and seed beads, but will be cute when it is finished! I'm working on blankets for Josiah and Caleb for Christmas - one has a road with trucks and one-eyed monsters with three boys and a dog and the other is outer space with rockets, aliens and three boys and a dog! (I'll post photos when they are finished!)

My family all got together for a family photo . . . I wish the photos had been better centered, but a couple turned out and I'm thrilled to have the photos of all of us together!

Special Christmas Give-Away - When Calls the Heart DVD

The other day I mentioned I thought I had announced all my special Christmas give-aways, and then Hallmark sent me a couple things to review . . . and give away! I thought those were my final two give-aways, but now I have three more! (I didn't think you would mind!)

So, today I'm very happy to review and give away the DVD, When Calls the Heart! When I was first married Janette Oke's books were almost "required reading"! I read them all! Yesterday Was Homemade Bread Day - Let's Celebrate!

Yes, yesterday was Homemade Bread Day, so while I intended to post it yesterday, homemade bread is so wonderful . . . and Thanksgiving is just around the corner, so I decided to go ahead and post it today; even though it is technically the day after Homemade Bread Day!

The website where I found about this day, had this to say: "Bread has been made for thousands of years. Estimates date it's origin back to 5000-10,000 B.C. Modern day lifestyles has relegated homemade bread to the world of specialty baking and holiday baking. People just don't have time to bake home made bread. We turn to a quick 'run' to bakeries and grocery stores, for our bread needs. The arrival of automatic breadmakers has created a small resurgence of home made breads, especially specialty breads. The purpose of this day is easy to understand.--- to make home made bread, and to encourage you and me to make tasty and nutritious bread. So, take a little time out of your busy day, and make some bread. Your nose, your taste buds, and your whole family will be glad you did."

I have fond memories of my grandma Bristol making and baking homemade bread . . . in the very house where I now live! I remember her giving me a fresh-from-the-oven slice of homemade bread with butter and Peter Pan Peanut Butter on it! "Yum" doesn't even come remotely close!

So, today I want to share with you a recipe which you can make for Butternut Squash Oat Bread! It is not only tasty with a beautiful, golden color, but it is also, healthy!

I Have a Winner - and Another Give-Away Tomorrow!
