just as grandma's cookie jar should always be full of good things, this blog will be full of good ideas, information, activities and reviews of things to help grandma . . . and grandpa, mom and dad too . . . pass on a heritage of faith to the children in their lives!
If you have been reading grandma's cookie jar for awhile, you have likely noticed I crochet a bit from time to time! I was pretty busy this past Fall making hats and blankets for my grandsons for Christmas, so once I finished the items I made for them, I made myself a new purse - a granny square purse . . . I was thinking "Amish colors" and used black as the background and then lots of bright, primary colors for the granny squares.
With Spring just around the corner . . . or at least I am sincerely hoping it is just around the corner! I thought I'd make myself another purse . . . this one with colors which make me think of Spring and Polka-Dots . . . they seemed like a fun way to give a purse a unique and cheerful look! I crocheted the dots and then fastened them together. I crocheted an inner purse because with the purse being crocheted, I want to be sure I won't lose anything through a stitch! I put the inner purse inside the polka-dot outer purse and crocheted them together. I added a few more rows, crocheted a handle and fastened the flap; which I also crocheted a liner for it as well. It was all quite simple and just took a couple days. You will find the free pattern for making the polka-dots at this link; just in case you might like to make a purse for yourself, too! This is a pretty simple and straight-forward pattern; one which would be easy to teach a granddaughter . . . if you have a granddaughter who wants to learn to crochet, have her try this pattern and make a purse for herself . . . she could even get a jump-start on Christmas '14 by making purses for some of the people on her gift list!
