grandma's bookshelf - Not the Quitting Kind - I'm Giving One Away!

I was recently invited by Peter Pauper Press to review a new book for children . . . Not the Quitting Kind and I'm delighted to share this book with you today!

Not the Quitting Kind
Author - Sarra J. Roth
Illustrator - Tracy Bishop
Publisher - Peter Pauper Press
Ages - 4-7

Favorite Features -
  • I LOVE the message to this book!
  • Illustrations are fun, colorful and really do a great job of "telling" the story!
  • Encourages children to remember to give things, "just one more chance"
Peter Pauper Press says Not the Quitting Kind is the story of, "a young girl who struggles to find her hidden talent. Through upbeat verse which is perfect for reading aloud, Roth shows young readers the importance of never giving up and how the best way to learn a new skill is to practice."

Children will be able to identify with the little girl who tries new things, but ends up thinking she "stinks at each one"! I'm happy to see the mom in the story tell the girl; "If you walk away too early, you will fail without a doubt. In order to get better, you will have to stick it out!" This can be a message which is difficult for children - and adults - to learn, but this book is certainly an excellent tool to help children learn to give things, "just one more chance"!

I'm happy to say, not only did Peter Pauper Press send one copy of Not the Quitting Kind for me to review, but they are making another available for me to give away (USA only)! If you are over the age of 18 and would like to be in the drawing for Not the Quitting Kind which will be on February 21, 2014, you may enter by commenting below to let me know something you had to give, "just one more chance" . . . for me it was learning to crochet! My grandma tried to teach me when I was about seven, but I just couldn't get the hang of it, so I told her I hated crocheting and it was for old people!!! Didn't make my grandma very happy! When I was 31 I saw a pattern for a crocheted bunny which I thought would be really cute by a photo of my children, so I asked my sister and she showed me how to crochet . . . now I crochet lots of things! (My husband on occassion asks me, "Now who did you say crocheting was for and what does this make you???!!!!" I tell him, "NOT old!")

Additional entries in this give-away are available if you follow on Google+, Google Friend Connect, follow by liking on facebook with the tab at this link (not just liking the post) and/or have followed grandma's cookie jar by email. For each of these which you have done you will receive one entry. In addition, if you "share" this post, you'll receive an additional entry (please let me know if you share!) This will help me be able to draw names from among people who would like to win Not the Quitting Kind and it gives you several ways to enter the give-away! Thank you for reading grandma's cookie jar and for sharing it with the people you know!
