grandma's bookshelf - How to lose a Lemur - I'm Giving One Away!

"Everyone knows that once a lemur takes a liking to you, there is not much that can be done about it . . ." This is the way a charming new book from Sterling Children's Books begins . . . and ends as well! In-between there is a lot of silly fun which makes the book, "How to Lose a Lemur" a fun story to enjoy with your grandchildren; and is why when I was invited to review - and give away - this book, I was happy to do so!

How to Lose a Lemur
By- Frann Preston-Gannon
Publisher - Sterling Children's Books
Ages - 4-7

Favorite Features -
  • Strong message about giving new friends a chance!
  • Fun illustrations - invite your grandchildren to find and count the lemurs on each page for more story fun!
Sterling Children's Books says; "How to Lose a Lemur is the tale of a little boy who has struck the fancy of a bunch of adoring lemurs!  While walking through the park one day, a friendly lemur starts following the boy – uninvited.  Before he knows it, even more lemurs are on his tail.  He does everything to ditch the playful creatures, from jumping on a train, to flying in a hot-air balloon, to climbing the highest mountain… but nothing works.  The parade of lovable lemurs stick by his side no matter what.

When the boy realizes he’s traveled too far and has gotten lost, his constant companions show why they make the very best of friends!  Can knowing a lemur be a good thing after all?"

I love the imagination and fun in How to Lose a Lemur; I think it will be a fun story for Josiah, Caleb and I to make up our own versions . . . How to Lose a Monster and How to Lose an Alien are sure to be "hits" with my grandsons! Talk with your grandchildren about the different ways the boy tries to get away from the lemurs . . . riding a bike, taking the train, hot air balloons and more and ask them which one they think would be the most fun! Be sure to talk with them about what they might do to make friends with a new child and how they can be good friends to everyone!

I'm very happy to say, not only did Sterling Children's Books send me one How to Lose a Lemur for review, but they are making another available for me to give away (USA only)! If you are over the age of 18 and would like to be in the drawing for How to Lose a Lemurwhich will be on April 7, 2014, you may enter by commenting below to let me know about an interesting journey you have taken; when my husband and I - and our basset hound, Mindy, were moving from California to Michigan, we decided to drive through Yellowstone and then head for the Badlands. We saw amazing, beautiful things in Yellowstone and headed East out of the park looking for a hotel where we could spend the night. We drove and drove, but didn't find any hotels. According to our map, we should have been where a hotel was likely to be found, but it got darker and darker and we began to go up and up higher and higher; our map did not show mountains where we were, so since we could not find a hotel, we finally decided to pull over to the side of the road and sleep a few hours until the sun rose and then continue on our journey. When the sun rose, we drove on around the bend and there was a sign for the Big Horn Mountains . . . they were not in this spot on our map!!! Apparently our map had a "misprint" as it had the Big Horn Mountains in a different spot than where we were! It was a fun trip none-the-less and we were able to unexpectedly enjoy the Big Horn Mountains!

  2. One very interesting journey we took as a family was when we rode mules in the Grand Canyon. It was a very scary, yet exciting journey. The mules walked in a straight line on these very narrow trails on the edge of the cliff. All I kept thinking was one little slip and there goes me on top of this mule! I'll never forget that journey!

  10. Before the days of gps, my husband and I were taking a road trip to see my cousin in Ohio. I was holding the map upside down and we were driving way out of our way.
