Just for Fun - It's Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day!

Today is Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day! Who knew there was such a "day", but apparently there is! I looked on-line and found the following information about Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day . . .
  • Grilled cheese sandwiches are a delicious, toasted delight which is popular all across the world. They even have their own holiday, Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day, when it’s practically your duty to indulge in them.
  • Melting cheese on top of bread is a culinary concept which has been around since the time of the Romans, but grilled cheese sandwiches as we know them didn’t become popular until the 1920s. Due to the ready availability of cheese and sliced bread, they became an American staple, but also spread around the world.
  • Naturally, the best way to celebrate Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day is to make and eat a grilled cheese sandwich. All you need is bread, cheese and butter, although you can experiment by adding more ingredients of your choice. You butter the outside of each piece of bread, and grill the sandwich while the cheese melts inside. Delicious!
When I was a child, grilled cheese sandwiches were one of my favorites; and now they are a favorite of my grandsons! Since the boys are at my house today, they are having grilled cheese sandwiches for lunch . . . when I told them it was Grilled Cheese Sandwich Day, they thought it would be a good idea to have them for their lunch!

I'll be fixing a variety of paninis, grilled fajitas and pocket sandwiches for my husband, daughter, son and daughter-in-law . . . using the Cuisinart Griddler, which I'll write about next . . . and announce a give-away for my Special Month of Birthday Give-Aways!

So . . . do you like grilled cheese sandwiches? What is your favorite way to make them? I like them the plain, old-fashioned way - just cheese (sharp cheddar) and buttered bread grilled!
