Mother's Day & Teacher Appreciation - Mini Apple Pies!

It is the time of year when we think about helping our grandchildren make gifts for their moms for Mother's Day and for their teachers as an end of year thank you gift. I asked Josiah last week if he wanted to give his teachers a candy bar with a thank you note on it to thank them at the end of his Wednesday night, Kids-'N-Action. He said, "For Christmas I made them melted snowmen ornaments. I think I should make my teachers something." I agreed and was trying to think of something for him to make when he said, "I think I should make them apple pies!"

I have to say, making apple pies had not occurred to me, but it is a good - and likely a tasty - idea! So, I stopped by the store today and got foil pot-pie pans and three kinds of apples - we will be all ready to make pies on Wednesday!

I found a recipe on-line for making little apple pies - you'll find it at this link - and think I'll basically follow it except I'll have Josiah and Caleb use my large heart cookie cutter to cut pie crust hearts to put on the top of their apple pies - I'll also let them sprinkle the hearts with cinnamon and sugar before they are baked.

I think these little pies would make tasty Mother's Day gifts, too!

What do you think? Have you ever helped your grandchildren make pies as gifts?
