grandma's bookshelf - The Garden Gate - I'm Giving One Away!

I have been delighted over the past year or so to review a series of books by Christa Kinde. Christa's Threshold Series of four books gives us the opportunity to see what Spiritual Warfare might be like and gives us a glimpse into what angels might be like and what they do.

Needless to say, her books are engaging and once you start reading, you will find it difficult to put it down!

So, Christa's new book; The Garden Gatewraps up the story she has been crafting about the Pomeroy family and the angels who guard them. I enjoyed the opportunity to see what happened next to these characters and found the way Christa, "dealt with " Adin, the evil, fallen angel, to be surprising and an end which "fit" very well! I especially loved how Christa not only tells a great story, but in so doing, she challenges us all to make the choice to be faithful and hold on in difficult and confusing times as we fulfill the "jobs" God sends us to do!

Zonderkidz says, "The Pomeroys pull together in the aftermath of the storm which shook West Edinton—and Prissie’s faith—to its very foundations. Letting go proves difficult, and holding on takes all of her courage. With the encouragement of a brother who’s in on her secret, Prissie finds her feet. With the help of the bane who’s now a brother, she takes a stand. As spring comes to the orchard, a cryptic remark from Abner hints at West Edinton’s long-kept secret. A beloved aunt returns from overseas. A faded angel takes up residence atop the Pomeroys’ refrigerator. A treasured friend must say goodbye. While ranks of the Faithful rally to defend what’s most precious, Prissie discovers angels aren't the only ones who are Sent."

The entire Threshold Series is one you will want to read and one which you can give to your grandchildren to read as well! If you have your grandchildren read this series with you, take advantage of the discussion questions in the back of the book - they are excellent!

I'm very happy to say, not only did Christa send me a copy of The Garden Gateto read, but Zonderkidz is also making another available for me to give away! (USA only) If you are over the age of 18 and would like to be in the drawing for The Garden Gate, ,which will be on August 1, 2014, you may enter by commenting below to tell me if you have ever had an opportunity to experience what could be the protection of your angel. I have not personally, but when my daughter was five she was swimming in Whiskeytown Lake in Northern California (our church always went to Brandy Creek for baptisms!) when she stepped into deep water. She says she saw a tall "man" pointing at her dad so she could see what way to go to get to shallow water. To this day she says he was an angel, because after this, the "man" was gone!

Additional entries in this give-away are available if you follow on Google+, Google Friend Connect, follow by liking on facebook with the tab at this link (not just liking the post) and/or have followed grandma's cookie jar by email. For each of these which you have done you will receive one entry. In addition, if you "share" this post, you'll receive an additional entry (please let me know if you share!) This will help me be able to draw names from among people who would like to win the The Garden Gate and it gives you several ways to enter the give-away! Thank you for reading grandma's cookie jar and for sharing it with the people you know!

  1. When I had my first child I was pronounced dead, but Jesus came to me and said "its not your time, I have more for you". I remembered a nurse saying wait she is coming back. My husband told me everything the next day when I was lucid enough. He said the doctor told him he had a new daughter but that I had died giving birth. 30 minutes later a nurse told him that a miracle had happened and that I was alive. I was visited by Jesus when my mom was on deaths door.and he said" Now you know why your life was spared, your mother needed you"!
