2014 Christmas Gift Review - Love Letters from God - I'm Giving One Away!

I love celebrating the "fun" of Christmas! After Thanksgiving dinner we put our tree up and then every time my three grandsons are at my house between then and Christmas, they get to open a gift (the gifts are small: matchbox cars, books, candy, ornaments, handmade crocheted hats, etc). I love making gifts, decorating, baking, reading books, watching specials . . . I love celebrating the "fun" of Christmas!

But, as much as I love celebrating the "fun" of Christmas, I especially love celebrating the reason for Christmas! My tree decorations are a crocheted set of Nativity ornaments and my main decorations are Precious Moments Nativity set, wise men and shepherds because while I love to decorate, I want the focus to be on Jesus; it is His birthday after all!

So, when I was sent a lovely book by Glenys Nellist from Zonderkidz entitled, Love Letters from God, I knew I had to save it for my 2014 Christmas Gift Review because Jesus is God's Love Gift to us; a book filled with "love letters" from God seems like a wonderful "fit" for Christmas!

Love Letters from God
Author Glenys Nellist
Illustrator - Sophie Allsopp
Publisher - Zonderkidz
Ages - 4-8

Favorite Features -
  • Eighteen Bible Adventures; each ends with a "letter" from God to your grandchild
  • Each "letter" has space for you to write your grandchild's name and then the, "letter" ties in with the Bible Adventure, encouraging children with the message of the Adventure
  • The "lift-the-flap" feature for the "love letters" will delight children
  • Colorful illustrations with fun details will capture children's attention
  • I love the "details" - each "love letter" has a "stamp" which goes with the Bible Adventure - children will have fun "noticing" the details
  • Each Adventure has "God's Wonderful Words to You" - a focus, or key message from the Adventure which children can remember.
  • Encourages developing a personal relationship with God!
Zonderkidz says; "What child does not love to receive mail? What if that child could receive, open and read his or her own personal mail from God? Love Letters from God will invite them to do just that! Accompanying each story in this unique children’s Bible is a very special and encouraging letter, each tucked away in its own lift-the-flap envelope, just for them. Written for children ages four to eight, Love Letters from God includes eighteen of the most popular Bible stories—nine from the Old Testament and nine from the New Testament. Following each story the child will find his or her own letter from God. Children will love the excitement of opening the letters and parents will love how each letter elaborates on the Bible story being told. A very special Bible verse, entitled God’s Wonderful Words To You will accompany each story and letter. Much more than a mere memory verse, each carefully chosen promise will be God’s very own personal words of love, encouragement, and hope. This book culminates in an invitation for children to write their own RSVP to God."

I love the unique feature of the "love letters" from God to children; it makes this book, "personal". While there is no shortage of Bible storybooks on the market, Love Letters from God is truly unlike any other I've ever reviewed! God's Word is personal; truly God's love letter to us, but this is difficult for a Bible storybook to communicate to children; until Glenys' book! With the short, simple presentation of key Bible Adventures, Love Letters from God not only helps children learn these Bible accounts, but helps them understand how they are far, far more than "stories"; they truly are God's letters filled with love to them from Him! Look at the, "love letter" from the Adventure of the, "Sneaky Snake" . . . "Dear _________ (I LOVE how you can put your grandchildren's names here!!!) Do you ever do things you shouldn't, like Adam and Eve did? It makes me sad when my children' do something wrong. But, I want you to know if you say you're sorry and trust me, the most wonderful thing will happen - I will not remember your sins! I will only remember how much I love you . . . because you are my precious child, and nothing you can do will ever stop me from loving you. With a Heart Full of Love, God" Is this not how you want your grandchildren to view God?!!! I certainly want mine to see God like this! Love Letters from God will absolutely be a book my grandsons and I work through together! I would love to see, "More Love Letters from God" to help children work through God's Word in this personal and unique way!

I'm extremely happy to say, not only did Zonderkidz send me one copy of Love Letters from God for me to review for free in exchange for my opinion, but they are also making an additional copy available for me to give away! (USA only) It is the perfect addition to my 2014 Christmas Gift Review and Give-Away, because what could be better than focusing on God's love: it is what Christmas is all about! If you are over the age of 18 and would like to be in the drawing for Love Letters from God, which will be on November 1, 2014, please comment below to let me know a Bible Adventure you would love to see included in a future (hopefully!!!) edition of Love Letters from God - I'd love to see the Adventure of Jehoshaphat!

In addition, you will receive additional entries if you have followed on Google+, Google Friend Connect, followed by liking on facebook with the tab at this link (not just liking the post) and/or have followed grandma's cookie jar by email. For each of these which you have done you will receive one entry. In addition, if you "share" this post, you'll receive an additional entry (please let me know if you share). This will help me be able to draw names from among people who would like to win the Love Letters from God and it gives you several ways to enter the give-away!

  1. How fun and educational this would be for my youngest grandson. Not knowing what stories are in the current book it's hard to say what I would like for another....perhaps The Prodigal Son. I follow on fb and email.

  2. Maybe this is too weird--but how about Rahab, helping the spies! or Daniel in the Lion's Den? Little boys love stories like that! I've a just turned 8 grandson who is son of an atheist mom and dad, but he loves adventure stories--who knows--surely the Bible's stories could be the most exciting ones of all---for everlasting life exciting even!
