"Don't Do It!!!!" & Important Lessons from Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2

My grandsons were at my house yesterday for a few hours and one of the things we did was watch Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2. I had not watched this movie before and neither had Josiah and Caleb, so as we watched it I snuggled sweet Shane and he took a nap in my lap. Josiah and Caleb were watching when it got to the point where Flint, the main character, was trying to put a USB into a computer he made which he thought was malfunctioning. What he didn't know is he had been lied to and the computer might be ruined if he put the USB into it and all the food creatures it made might be killed. As the suspense increased Josiah and Caleb sat up straighter. When Flint moved closer and closer to the computer to put the USB into it, Josiah shouted out, "Don't do it! Don't do it!!!" Caleb followed suit and said, "Don't do it!! Don't do it!!! NOOOOO!!!! Don't do it!!!!!"

Signed, Sealed, Delivered & A Free Bible Study

It can be challenging to find television programing which you can feel comfortable about the entire family watching together as so many reflect a value system which does not match what we value. There is however; a new series which runs on Sunday evenings on the Hallmark Channel which families can feel comfortable watching together; "Signed, Sealed, Delivered".

I was recently invited to watch an episode and share my thoughts about it with you; and let you know of a link where you will find a FREE seven-day Bible study from the American Bible Society which focuses on the themes in this series. You'll find the study at this link as well as a link where you can watch previously aired episodes of Signed, Sealed, Delivered.)

With Summer upon us, it is a great time to try new desserts for those get-togethers and if
the dessert is a tasty no-bake recipe it could not possibly be more perfect! I was browsing on PinterestWith Summer upon us, it is a great time to try new desserts for those get-togethers and if the dessert is a tasty no-bake recipe it could not possibly be more perfect! I'm a Happy Grandma!

Yesterday was my birthday; I spent the day with my husband - Dave, children - Tiffany,
Dave and Jackie, and my grandsons - Josiah, Caleb and Shane! The boys, of course, gave lots of hugs and kisses - the best gifts ever and their smiles filled the day!

I love spending time with my family, so having them here for my birthday made the day wonderful in every way for sure!

This grandma has a happy heart - what could possibly be better?

It is National Missing Children's Day

Typically I write about the joys of being a grandma, product I find interesting and ideas to help pass on a heritage of faith. Today, I'm sharing a very serious day with you - National Missing Children's Day. "In 1983, President Ronald Reagan proclaimed May 25 as National Missing Children's Day. Each year the Department of Justice (DOJ) commemorates Missing Children's Day with a ceremony honoring the heroic and exemplary efforts of agencies, organizations, and individuals to protect children.

Return of American Bible Challenge & a Give-Away!

In two days, on Thursday May 22, 2014, I'm going to be watching the Season Premier of the American Bible Challenge! It is coming back for a third year and I will definitely be watching!

The American Bible Challenge is returning for it's third season, but in case you are not familiar with it, the Game Show Network describes it as: "The American Bible Challenge is a fun, spirited game show that celebrates the Bible, its teachings, relevance and place in American culture.

"

The American Bible Challenge is what you might expect for a Bible trivia game show - it has contestants, a host and questions about the Bible. But, it also is what you might not expect: the host is Jeff Foxworthy - which means you can be sure there will be lots of laughs, but the family-friendly kind of laughing! There is music - Kirk Franklin heads up the music so it is sure to be "toe-tapping"! There are teams - ten teams to be exact, but these teams do not play to win money for themselves; they play to win money for charities!

At any rate, the next "family celebration" is on June 8, 2014 . . . Children's Day!!! So, if you would like to get a "jump start" on making some fun gifts which your grandchildren can enjoy, check this idea I found on Pinterest for Ice Chalk!!!

Blog Issues Resolved!

This morning as I started to work on the posts for today, I discovered my blog did not renew. We have been trying to do this for more than a month, but only got an endless loop of dead-ends from Google.

So, after feeling panic and frustration, I was eventually able to connect with an actual real live person at Google who helped me renew both of my blogs.

I apologize for any confusion as you were not able to connect with grandma's cookie jar and About the Children's Department this morning.

just for fun - Silly State Laws in California!

Special Birthday Give-Away - One Lost Sheep

The Bible is filled with true adventures which we love to tell to our children: such as when David fought the giant Goliath or when Daniel spent the night with the lions! These "classic" accounts are staples in our Sunday school curriculum and fill the shelves in our church libraries, so typically, when I see a new storybook about one of these Bible adventures, I am hesitant to review them. However; I was recently sent two new books from Zonderkidz and Rhonda Gowler Greene which present two classic Bible adventures in such a delightful way, I decided to share them with you!

just for fun - Today is the, "Great American Grump Out" Day!

If you have been reading grandma's cookie jar for very long, you know I like to share with you silly holidays and special days . . . after all, when it is chocolate day or pie day or cookie day or donut day or ice cream day, who wouldn't want to celebrate???!!!

Well, the special day for today made me smile, so I thought I'd go ahead and share it with you . . . today is the, "Great American Grump Out" day! On-line it says, "The Grump Out asked sour pusses to suck it up and refrain from getting their grump on -- at least for 24 hours. This includes no grumping, no frowning, no grousing, complaining, punching, slapping, hitting or killing . . . FOR ONE WHOLE DAY. On this day you will knock it off with your grouchy thing and put a lid on it --- just for 24 hours. (It's not for a lifetime, just a mere 24 hours. If you get your 8 hours of sleep it means you only have to go for 16 hours.) After that you can go back to your old self again."

They also gave the following:

Mother's Day & Teacher Appreciation - Mini Apple Pies!

It is the time of year when we think about helping our grandchildren make gifts for their moms for Mother's Day and for their teachers as an end of year thank you gift. I asked Josiah last week if he wanted to give his teachers a candy bar with a thank you note on it to thank them at the end of his Wednesday night, Kids-'N-Action. He said, "For Christmas I made them melted snowmen ornaments. I think I should make my teachers something." I agreed and was trying to think of something for him to make when he said, "I think I should make them apple pies!"

I have to say, making apple pies had not occurred to me, but it is a good - and likely a tasty - idea! So, I stopped by the store today and got foil pot-pie pans and three kinds of apples - we will be all ready to make pies on Wednesday!

I Have a Winner - and Another Give-Away in Two Days!
