grandma's bookshelf - A Dozen Cousins - I'm Giving One Away!

I was recently invited to review a new book which sounded fun to me, so today I'm very happy to share my review with you, and a guest review by my grandson, Josiah!

A Dozen Cousins
Author - Lori Haskins Houran
Illustrator - Sam Usher
Publisher - Sterling Children's Books
Ages - 4-7

Favorite Features -

  • Josiah liked the part where, "They let her be the bad guy . . . and forgot to let her go!" - He thought it was funny the cousins tied Anna to a tree!
  • He liked the illustrations - especially the picture of the cousin with two ice cream cones.
  • Josiah liked the story of a girl with a dozen boy cousins and no girl cousins.
Josiah thinks other children will like A Dozen Cousins because it is funny and is a fun story to read! Thank you Josiah for your review!

Sterling Children's Books says; "Anna had a dozen cousins All of them were boys. What's life like for one little girl with TWELVE male cousins? Not easy! 'They read her secret diary. They used up all her paint. They put a lizard in her hat to see if she would faint.' Loaded with infectious humor, this rollicking, rhyming picture book features a happy heroine who adores her big, boisterous boy family."

I enjoyed this book with it's fun and it's message about how families may look different, but they can be enjoyed, appreciated and loved - even if you are a girl and you have twelve boy cousins!

I'm very happy to say, not only did Sterling Children's Books send me one copy of A Dozen Cousins to review, but they are making another available for me to give away (USA only)! If you are over the age of 18 and would like to be in the drawing for A Dozen Cousins, which will be on February 15, 2015, please comment below to let me know what you did with your cousins when you were a child - my parents had a summer home on a lake next door to my grandparents, so my cousins often spent time at the lake, too! We swam, fished, caught frogs and turtles and just had a lot of fun!

In addition, you will receive additional entries if you have followed on Google+, Google Friend Connect, followed by liking on facebook with the tab at this link (not just liking the post) and/or have followed grandma's cookie jar by email. For each of these which you have done you will receive one entry. In addition, if you "share" this post, you'll receive an additional entry (please let me know if you share). This will help me be able to draw names from among people who would like to win A Dozen Cousins and it gives you several ways to enter the give-away!

  1. I did not live close to any of my cousins (although we were all in the same state..Michigan). My cousin who lived in Detroit came and spent every "school vacation" with us on the farm as both of his parents were working. I follow on fb and email.
