The Berenstain Bears' Country Cookbook - It's a Prize for the Cookie Contest!

Since the story which goes with this year's American Girl Doll Girl of the Year for 2015 involves her being a girl who loves baking, I thought it would be fun to have a cookie recipe contest and announced the contest about a week and a half ago. So far Amy C. has shared her grandma's recipe for Seven Layer Cookies, Karen shared her recipe for Chocolate Biscotti and Leah shared her recipe for Jam-filled Thumbprint Cookies. Be sure to check these out - and try them!

What would a contest be without prizes? I'm working on putting together a prize package, but so far the package includes 25 extra entries in the give-away for the 2015 American Girl Doll Girl of the Year and one Berenstain Bears' Country Cookbook!

I'm happy to see this cookbook for children; with so many children wanting to cook these days, The Berenstain Bears' Country Cookbook is a great tool to help them learn to do so with fun and their "friends" the Berenstain Bears! The Berenstain Bears' Country Cookbook is a great cookbook for children to have at home, and at grandma's house because if they have it, chances are they will be spending time in the kitchen learning to cook!

I'm happy to say, not only did Zonderkidz send me one copy for free to review, but they are making another available for me to give away; which I will as part of the prize package for the Cookie Recipe Contest! If you are over the age of 18 and live in the USA you can enter this contest and potentially win this cookbook by sharing your favorite cookie recipe! As I arrange for additional prizes, I'll announce them!

Now I have mentioned prizes, let's look at the "rules" for the contest! 
  • You may share your favorite cookie recipe - or one of your favorites - by posting the recipe on this link. (One recipe per person)
  • In one month, I'll list the cookie recipes which have been contributed and you all may vote on the recipes you like the best (each person may vote for two).
  • Please look at the recipes already submitted as I'll only include one chocolate chip cookie recipe, one peanut butter cookie recipe, etc . . . so if someone has already submitted the recipe you plan to submit, check and submit something else, unless you recipe is significantly different.
  • You will have two weeks to vote for your two favorite cookie recipes then I will count the votes and the top three vote getters will be entered in another voting round where you can vote for your one favorite!
  • You will have one week to vote for your favorite and the recipe which receives the most votes is the winner!
I hope this does not sound complicated!

  1. What a fun contest! Here is my favorite snickerdoodle recipe:

    Ingredients

    1/2 cup salted butter, softened
    1/2 cup vegetable shortening
    1 1/2 cups plus 2 tablespoons sugar
    2 medium eggs
    2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
    2 teaspoons cream of tartar
    1 teaspoon baking soda
    1/4 teaspoon fine salt
    2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

    Directions

    Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F.

    In a large bowl, combine the butter, shortening, 1 1/2 cups sugar and the eggs and mix thoroughly with an electric mixer on medium speed until creamy and well combined, 1 to 2 minutes. Sift together the flour, cream of tartar, baking soda and salt, and stir into the shortening mixture.

    In a small bowl, stir together the remaining 2 tablespoons sugar with the cinnamon.

    Shape the dough into 1 1/2-inch balls (1 tablespoon per ball), and roll each ball in the cinnamon-sugar. Arrange the dough balls 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake two sheets at a time until the edges of the cookies are set but the centers are still soft, 8 to 10 minutes, rotating the sheets halfway through. Transfer the cookies to wire racks for cooling. Repeat with the remaining dough balls. Store in an airtight container.

  2. My daughters favorite cookie recipe is m & m cookies.
    Mix 2/3 cup shortening, 1/2 cup sugar, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1 egg and 1 tsp vanilla. Then mix dry ingredients in another bowl. 1 1/2 cup flour, 1/2 tsp baking soda, 1/2 tsp salt then mix dry mixture with the first . Then just add 1 cup of m & m's. Bake at 375. 8 minutes for a tablespoon sized dough

  3. Oreo Cookie Ball Recipe – my 8 yr old daughter and I made these over the holidays and they were super easy for a kid to make and a huge hit with our party guests.

    Ingredients
    • 1 pkg. (8 oz.) Cream Cheese, softened
    • 36 Oreo cookies, finely crushed
    • 16 oz. semi-sweet baking chocolate, melted


    Instructions
    1. Mix cream cheese and cookie crumbs until well blended.
    2. Shape into 48 (1-inch) balls. Freeze 10 min. Dip balls in melted chocolate; place in single layer in shallow waxed paper-lined pan.
    3. Refrigerate 1 hour or until firm.

  4. My daughter and I love to make these 3 ingredient peanut butter cookies:

    1 Cup Peanut Butter
    1 Cup Sugar
    1 Egg

    Mix ingredients together.
    Place dough on ungreased cookie sheet. Pat down making an X with a fork.
    Bake at 350 for 10 minutes.

  5. Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies

    Ingredients
    2 cups unsalted butter
    1 ½ cups granulated sugar
    1 ½ cups dark brown sugar
    4 eggs
    3 tablespoons hot water
    2 teaspoons baking soda
    1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
    3 cups all purpose flour
    2 teaspoons kosher salt
    1 package semi-sweet chocolate chips
    1 ½ cups chopped pecans
    4 cups quick oats

    Instructions
    Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F.
    Cream the butter and sugars in the bowl of a stand mixer set to medium-high until creamy, light and fluffy, about 3 to 4 minutes. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well in between additions. Sift the flour and salt together. In a ramekin or small bowl dissolve the baking soda in the hot water and add 1/3 of mixture to creamed mix, alternating with 1 cup of dry ingredients and repeat until . Reduce the mixer speed to low and add the chocolate chips, pecans and quick oats and mix until just combined.
    Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper and drop a heaping tablespoon of dough onto the cookie sheet about 2 inches apart from each other. Bake one sheet of cookies at a time for 10 minutes or until just golden. Remove from oven and let cool on the cookie sheet for 3-4 minutes then move to a wire cooling rack until completely cooled.

  6. Molasses Crinkles
    1 1/2 c shortening
    2 C. brown sugar
    2 eggs
    1/2 c. molasses (I like black strap, best)
    4 1/2 c. flour
    2 tsp. cinnamon
    2 tsp. ginger
    1 1/3 tsp baking soda
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 tsp. cloves

    Cream brown sugar and shortnening. Add in eggs and molasses. Combine the dry ingredients and add into creamed mixture. Form into cookie balls. Roll in sugar. Place on baking sheets. Flatten slightly. Bake at 375 for 10 minutes.
