birthday month give-away - ABC Universe

It is "that" time of year where I share some special reviews with you and announce some great give-aways throughout the month of May . . . otherwise known as, my Special Month of Birthday Give-aways! I hold give-aways all year long, but during the month of May - Birthday Month - and the month of November - Christmas Give-aways - I have lots of give-aways!

Yes, May is the "birthday month" for grandma's cookie jar and this year we are celebrating grandma's cookie jar's fourth birthday! Some of you have been reading grandma's cookie jar all four years, some of you are new, but I am so thankful each of you take time to read what I write . . . it is my hope you find ideas, information and fun for you and your grandchildren/children. Most importantly, I hope you are encouraged to pass on a heritage of faith!

So, the first item I'm reviewing for the Special Month of Birthday Give-Aways is a new ABC book from Sterling Children's Books which I was recently invited to review.

ABC Universe
American Museum of Natural History in New York City
Publisher - Sterling Children's Books
Ages - 2-5

Favorite Features -
  • Great photos of space and spacey things!
  • I love the way they found something "spacey" for each letter of the alphabet
  • Sturdy board book - will hold up to little ones reading it
  • I love the info included with each item - making it more than just an ABC book!
Sterling Children's Books says; "In collaboration with the American Museum of Natural History in New York City, Sterling Children’s Books is excited to present ABC Universe  (April 2015), the upcoming addition to our beloved oversized AMNH ABC Board Books collection. From astronaut and black hole to yellow dwarf and zenith, this stunningly photographed guide to the alphabet opens up the entire cosmos to children. With extra-large letters to encourage finger tracing and visual memorization, as well as informative descriptions of all 26 terms, ABC Universe takes kids on a photographic journey through comets, flares, and planets and introduces them to supernovas, telescopes, space probes, and more. Perfect for the youngest astronomers! For any parent tired of traditional ABC board books ABC Universe is just the thing for them."

I found this ABC book to not be the "typical" ABC book. Yes, it has a page for each letter of the alphabet and yes, it has an "item" for each letter of the alphabet. But, this ABC book is about space - in an of itself, this is unique! Plus, with the info given on each item, it is interesting - truly interesting for grandparents/parents to read - or an older sibling to read. Even children who know their ABC's will enjoy ABC Universe!

I also love how the photos give such a clear "view" of some of the amazing parts of God's creation! While this is not a book about Creation, I absolutely will be talking with my grandsons about the amazing things God created and put in Space!

I'm very happy to say, not only did Sterling Children's Books send me one copy of ABC Universe to review in exchange for writing my own opinion of the book, but they are making another available for me to give away (USA only)! If you are over the age of 18 and would like to be in the drawing for ABC Universe, which will be on May 1, 2015, please comment below to let me know your favorite planet - mine, other than Earth, of course, is Saturn. I think the rings are really pretty and interesting!

In addition, you will receive additional entries if you have followed on Google+, Google Friend Connect, followed by liking on facebook with the tab at this link (not just liking the post) and/or have followed grandma's cookie jar by email. For each of these which you have done you will receive one entry. In addition, if you "share" this post, you'll receive an additional entry (please let me know if you share). This will help me be able to draw names from among people who would like to win
ABC Universe and it gives you several ways to enter the give-away!
