grandma's bookshelf - I Can Learn the Bible - a Truly Excellent Resource!

I've been writing a lot lately about passing on a heritage of faith to our grandchildren, because this is something which is very important to me. I have lost some readers of grandma's cookie jar for this reason; which I'm sad about. But, while I enjoy the "fun" of grandma's cookie jar with reviews, giveaways, crafts, recipes, etc, the most important thing we can do as grandmas is to help our grandchildren understand how very much God loves them and how they can love Him back. So, I will continue to write about this.

Yesterday I received a book in the INCM Dispatch box (a resource for children's ministry from the Internationl Network of Children's Ministry) which can help us do exactly this . . . help our grandchildren understand how very much God loves them and how they can love Him back! I'm very happy to review it for you today.

Tommy Nelson says; "In this 52-week devotional for children, author Holly Hawkins Shivers adapts the gift book The Joshua Code (written by her father, O.S. Hawkins) into a devotional which will help children learn and live the scriptures. Using kid-friendly language, I Can Learn the Bible, teaches scriptures in a way children can understand. Each week, children will commit a new scripture to memory by reading a fun, engaging devotional which is doable for a child. Matthew 7:7 will remind kids to always ask God for help. Philippians 1:6 will teach them God is always working in their lives. And 50 more scriptures will continue to write the truth on their hearts, so they will remember it forever.
Parents using the gift book will love using the children's book as a discussion tool for the entire family. A great gift for baptisms, confirmations, and any special occasion, I Can Learn the Bible, includes clever tips for memorizing scripture. Each new day and each new verse will reinforce to young readers 'God’s Word is FOR ME and TO ME, it is IN ME and working THROUGH ME, and just like His love, it goes on and on forever!'”

I love this book because it makes memorizing God's word easy and more importantly, focuses on what it is saying, so children do not just learn the words in their heads, but understand and apply them to their hearts! We do want children to memorize God's Word, but we also want them to understand and live it; I Can Learn the Bible: The Joshua Code for Kids: 52 Devotions and Scriptures for Kids is a tool which can help parents - and grandparents - help the children we love do this! Check it out - it is an excellent resource!
