Caleb is at the age (4) where he is starting to "read" by retelling the story or making up the story to match with the illustrations. He watches his big brother Josiah (7) who loves to read - I mean, who LOVES to read, so he wants to do what Josiah does!
All of this makes me really happy, so when Sterling Publishing asked if I would be interested in taking a look at a new picture book, Sloth Slept On, I thought it sounded like a book my grandsons would enjoy and happily said, "Yes!" In exchange for my review, Sterling Publishing not only sent me the book, but they are making another available for me to give away, but more on this later. First, my review . . .
Sloth Slept On
Author/Illustrator - Frann Preston-Gannon
Publisher - Sterling Children's Books
Ages - 4-7
Favorite Features -
- Love the fun story - the missing posters add to the fun - my grandsons noticed them right away and thought it was funny the characters in the story did not!
- Illustrations are bright, colorful, engaging and really add to the book!
- I love how the author included quite a bit of information about Sloths in the story - fun story and informative book all rolled into one.
- Encourages imagination and curiosity.
Sterling Children's Books says; "Who's that sleeping in our tree? When a group of children find an animal happily napping in their backyard, they set out to discover what it is and where it belongs. As they search and search—never noticing all the posters and news articles about a sloth which has broken out of the zoo—they finally discover the identity of the snoozing creature. And when sloth wakes up, it's in for a BIG surprise! Frann Preston-Gannon has created an endearing, adorable, and huggable title character; a group of intrepid children; and a wildly humorous situation which will appeal to young readers."
My grandsons enjoyed Sloth Slept On - the story and the fun of the illustrations which gave them the opportunity to discover clues to what was going to happen next in the story. They also thought it was silly, and fun, to think the sloth was a pirate! They are sure other children will enjoy Sloth Slept On! I agree with my three sweet boys . . . Sloth Slept On is a book children - and grandmas, will enjoy!
As I mentioned above, not only did Sterling Children's Books send me one copy of Sloth Slept to review, but they are making another available for me to give away - and the drawing will be on September 9, 2015. If you live in the USA, are over the age of 18 and would like to be included in this giveaway, please comment below to tell me an animal you'd be delighted to find napping in your backyard . . . while my initial thought was a giraffe, I think I'd love to find a panda because it has the potential be significantly more snugly than a giraffe!
In addition if you have followed on Google Friend Connect, followed by liking on facebook with the tab in the "Find us on Facebook" box ON THE BLOG or at this link (not just liking the post) and/or have followed grandma's cookie jar by email you will receive one entry for each of these which you have done. Plus, if you "share" this post, you'll receive another entry (please let me know if you share). This will help me be able to draw names from among people who would like to win Sloth Slept and it gives you several ways to enter the give-away! Thank you for reading grandma's cookie jar and for sharing it with the people you know!
