grandma's bookshelf - Drawing Animals Shape by Shape - I'm Giving One Away!

Do your grandchildren enjoy drawing or doodling? Are they interested in learning to draw? Well, if they are, this new book Sterling Children's Books sent me to review might be just the book for them!

Sterling Children's Books says; "If you can draw a simple circle, square, rectangle, or triangle, you can draw any of the more than 100 cartoon animals in this fun and colorful book by Christopher Hart, the world’s bestselling author of how-to-draw books. In this follow-up to the popular book Drawing Shape by Shape, kids and adults alike will learn how to draw a wide variety of animals, from common dogs and cats to safari animals, sea creatures, birds, bugs, reptiles, dinosaurs and much more. With step-by-step instructions and a colorful collection of cartoon creatures, drawing animals is as easy as it is fun!"

I think the ability to draw - even simple characters - is a great skill for anyone to have; whether they go on to draw a lot, or not. Drawing can be a great way to express ourselves and is a great way for us to get another glimpse at what our grandchildren/children are thinking. I love how Drawing Animals Shape by Shape shows children how easy it is to draw; if they can draw shapes, they can draw animals, characters . . . whatever they want!

In this day and age where our grandchildren/children spend so much of their time on computers, on-line and using technology, Drawing Animals Shape by Shape gives them the opportunity to use their imagination and their own hands to express their creativity and imagination! Paper, pen, pencils, crayons, markers - whatever they want to use for a wonderful change of pace and opportunity to learn something new - no electronic devices necessary! I'm looking forward to seeing what my grandsons will draw when they see it is as easy as drawing a few shapes, adding a few details and voila! They will be artists! Sounds like fun to me!

I'm very happy to say, not only did Sterling Children's Books send me one copy of Drawing Animals Shape by Shape in exchange for my review, but they are making another available for me to give away (USA only)!  If you live in the USA, are over the age of 18 and would like to be included in this giveaway, which will be on September 30, 2015, please comment below to tell me an animal you'd like to learn to draw . . . I think a giraffe would be fun to draw!

In addition if you have followed on Google Friend Connect, followed by liking on facebook with the tab in the "Find us on Facebook" box ON THE BLOG or at this link (not just liking the post) and/or have followed grandma's cookie jar by email you will receive one entry for each of these which you have done. 2. I have an 8-year-old who's very into drawing. There's a teacher at his school who's shown him how to draw lots of things. Last time I was visiting, he was drawing an owl family. :) I think I'd want to learn how to draw something he doesn't already know how to draw, so I can teach him something new. (He's already done a lot of showing off what he can do - it's my turn to show off!) I don't think I've seen him draw any horses yet - I'll say, a horse!

  4. Oh what a wonderful gift this would be. Creativity just gets crushed in most schools now. So important to nurture creative outlets from home. I probably shouldn't tell you that I will buy this if I don't win! Lol
