"Thank You God, For My Birthday!" & "I Have Only Practiced For Having Fun!"

This past Saturday we celebrated my sweet rascal Caleb's birthday! This little boy is now four years old and I have to tell you, he is as cute a four-year-old as they come! As he received each of his gifts and opened them, he said, "This is exactly what I wanted!!!" Then he said, "Thank you!" and played with each of his new toys. The delight, thankfulness and joy he showed made all of us who gave him a gift experience his joy, too!

I personally enjoyed hearing him laugh as he played with his toys - a laugh just filled with pure joy! My heart feels happy each time I think about it!

In my family it is our "tradition" to pray for the birthday person when we have our birthday dinner, but Caleb wanted to be the one who prayed for our meal. He prayed; "Thank You God for my birthday!" I could not agree more . . . "Thank You God for my sweet rascal Caleb's birthday!!!"

Five Days & Two Giveaways - You Have Time to Enter!

Yes, in five days I'm giving away two resources which will help you pass on a heritage of faith to your grandchildren . . . and have fun doing it . . . and laugh, too!

A Statue & Why It Matters What We Do

Image result for images of a targetI live in Michigan and our news has been covering the presentation of a one-ton statue of Satan at a Satanist temple in Detroit. It may not have made the news where you live, but it has received a fair amount of coverage where I live. This statue is rather large and while, to me, it is disturbing to think anyone would want to make a statue of Satan, the most disturbing feature of this statue is how it has two young children on either side of "Satan" looking at him lovingly. More than disturbing. This is just evil and vile.

Regardless of the message the makers of this statue are trying to communicate (and they actually had long lines of people who traveled specifically to see this statue at its opening), they have sadly identified (perhaps without even realizing it) how children are truly a main "target" of Satan. If he can get children to turn away from God, not even necessarily turn specifically to him, but just away from God, then he has a higher chance of keeping them.

Birthday Party & Love!

Today is going to be a busy day. I'm sitting here for a few minutes in a quiet house as my grandsons are still sleeping. (I'm surprised as they are usually awake before 6:30 in the morning!)

We are celebrating Caleb's birthday today - pizza, cupcakes, cake and orange juice are on the menu - all his choices! We will also have fun with water balloons and squirt guns after his birthday dinner . . . it is hot out, so getting soaked will be an idea the boys will embrace with enthusiasm!

Happy Birthday My Sweet Rascal Grandson - I'm So Thankful For You!

Today is my sweet grandchild Caleb's fourth birthday! I have had my life made ever so much better by the arrival of this amazing gift from the hand of God four years ago and I am so thankful for him! This little boy is my sweet grandson; my sweet, rascal grandson! Oh, yes; he absolutely is a rascal, but a very, very sweet rascal!

I love his sweet rascally smile! I love the way he snuggles in my lap! I love how he smiles at me and says; "Kisses are weird!" just to hear me say; "Kisses are NOT weird - kisses are wonderful!!!" I love watching him grow up and learn new things and I love holding him when he is sleeping.

I know how very fast these years will fly by; it won't be long and he won't climb into my lap any more. In just a few short years he will be a teen and then an adult. It matters so much what I do when I am around this sweet, rascal! It matters what I say. It matters what I do. It matters.

Protect your GrandchildrenChildren From Child Trafficking

Image result for images for child traffickingEarlier this week CNN showed a special on Child Trafficking in the USA; yes, in the USA. If you are like me, you picture this horrific crime taking place in other places around the world; not here in the USA. But, this evil does take place here; in our own "backyards".

The special was shocking and heartbreaking, but it taught me something important. The majority of children here in the USA who end up being trafficked start as children who begin relationships with evil traffickers because they listen to them. These people know if they build a relationship with children who are feeling alone, neglected and like they have no one in their lives who will even listen to them, they will be able to get these children to a place where they will do what they are told; even allow their bodies to be used by evil people.

His Reaction Made me Smile!

Yesterday my sweet grandsons were at my house and Josiah saw my book; It Is Impossible to Spoil Grandchildren: and Other Important Facts for Grandparents and Parents, Too! He picked it up, sat down and started reading chapter one out-loud! As he read, he got a big smile on his face when he realized I wrote about him and his brothers. He read abut half of the first chapter and then read the Epilog - he smiled and nodded his head through most of it because he clearly remembered the situation I wrote about! I enjoyed hearing him read my book; it was a treat to see and hear his reaction!

In It Is Impossible to Spoil Grandchildren: and Other Important Facts for Grandparents and Parents, Too!, I share a number of my "sweet grandsons stories" and then I talk about how we can pass on a heritage of faith to our sweet grandchildren/children. The "sweet grandson stories" will bring a smile to your face and it is my prayer the ideas about passing on a heritage of faith will be ideas you can use with the children you love.

Help Them Experience It!

Part of what we do to pass on a heritage of faith to our sweet grandchildren is to help bring the teachings and lessons of the Bible into our grandchildren's everyday lives. When the hear about the Bible event where Josiah chose to read God's Word and obey it, they need to understand they can make this choice, too! When they hear about how Caleb chose to trust having God on his side was better than being "giants", they need to understand how they have God on their "side", too! When they hear about how Daniel chose to talk with God even when it meant he could become the main dish on the lion's menu for supper, they need to understand they can talk to God about anything and everything at any time, too!

My sweet grandson Caleb learned and experienced this recently. He is almost four years old - his birthday is tomorrow! His parents and we have been working for some time on potty training, but Caleb just has not been terribly interested. So, last weekend Caleb and I prayed and asked Jesus to help him remember to use the potty - and apparently He did because now Caleb is a big boy who happily uses the potty! He told me Jesus told him to go use the potty!

HomeFront Magazine - Free Resource for Families!

Being a grandparent is not particularly "boring". Not only are young grandchildren in particular some of the least-boring people on the face of the earth (children), but there is always something to do and enjoy with them!

In all our focus on our grandchildren, it can be easy to lose focus on being sure our home is a strong place where children grow in their walk with God. Which is why I am so happy to share a resource with you which will help you focus on the most important thing - passing on a heritage of faith! (And it is another of the resources in the INCM Dispatch Box #2.)

crafting with grandma - Tie-Dye with Baby Wipes!

Easy Tie Dye Art with Baby WipesYes, this title says; "Tie-Dye with Baby Wipes!" I was browsing Pinterest this morning and found this craft project which looks like a fun craft children are sure to enjoy - and so will we! It is simple, easy to do and not messy! What more could we want???!!!

Strength to Care - Read it and Share it!

In most instances, when a child is born in our family or a friend's family, we all rejoice and celebrate. However; occasionally, when a child is born, a family is thrown into the stress, fear and overwhelming uncertainty which comes when the child has serious medical issues. Yes, these families love their children and yes there is joy, but when their child is in the NICU and being sent to have surgeries the focus is on something very different than joy and celebrating. What do you do when this happens to a family you know and love?

Clearly, there are many things for you to "do" . . . pray, be there physically for the family, help with child care needs for any other children they may have, provide for meals, house cleaning, help with transportation needs, sit with them, see to other physical needs, pray and the list goes on.

But, along with these things, there is another thing you can do . . . give them a copy of the new book; Strength to Care: Reflections for Parents of Children with Complex Medical and Special NeedsThis book was written by a friend from my church; a husband and dad who, along with his dear wife, have been blessed with five children - three lovely daughters and two sons. This family understands first-hand what it means to be thrown into the chaos which follows the birth of a child with serious physical needs because this has happened to them two times with the births of their sons.

In Strength to Care: Reflections for Parents of Children with Complex Medical and Special Needs, Kevin Troupe shares their experiences and how they grew closer to God and learned what it means to trust Him through the births and day-today living of life with special needs sons. And while this book is sure to encourage and give hope to families who find themselves in similar situations, it will challenge us all to stop living our lives as if we are in charge - because we clearly are not - and to instead make the choice to trust God and rely on His strength for our own lives and to care for others.

My Sweet Boys are Growing!

I enjoyed my usual Friday night and Saturday with my sweet boys - we usually have the boys over for a sleep-over each Friday. I was amazed by how much the boys - all three of them - have been growing! I see them four days a week (usually Tuesday evening, Wednesday, Friday evening and Saturday during the Summer), but they have all been growing - they must have had a growth spurt!

grandma's bookshelf - I Can Learn the Bible - a Truly Excellent Resource!

I've been writing a lot lately about passing on a heritage of faith to our grandchildren, because this is something which is very important to me. I have lost some readers of grandma's cookie jar for this reason; which I'm sad about. But, while I enjoy the "fun" of grandma's cookie jar with reviews, giveaways, crafts, recipes, etc, the most important thing we can do as grandmas is to help our grandchildren understand how very much God loves them and how they can love Him back. So, I will continue to write about this.

Yesterday I received a book in the INCM Dispatch box (a resource for children's ministry from the Internationl Network of Children's Ministry) which can help us do exactly this . . . help our grandchildren understand how very much God loves them and how they can love Him back! I'm very happy to review it for you today.

grandma's bookshelf - Your Alien - I'm Giving One Away!

I was recently invited to review a new children's book - since it had an alien in it, I said I'd be delighted to do so - my grandsons do like stories with nice, little aliens! It arrived a couple days ago and today I'm happy to let you know what I think of it!

spiritual parenting - "It's Not About Perfect Behavior. It's About Passionate Hearts."

I have three, sweet grandsons and while to me they are "perfect", I know they truly are not. They are three, sweet, active, normal boys and are as imperfect as the rest of us. There are times when they obey, are kind, tell the truth, share and show respect, and there are times when they do not. They are three, sweet, active boys and they are as much in need of learning how to have hearts and souls which love God with their all, as I am.

I do not know of a single parent or grandparent who has not struggled with how to help the children they love grow up to be people who make wise choices and who love God with their all. We all want this, but there is no shortage of opinions about how to get there with the children we love. There also is no shortage of books on parenting. I tend to be skeptical of parenting books, but spiritual parenting: an awakening for today's families is a book I can enthusiastically recommend to every parent and grandparent as it will not only help you learn how to truly help your grandchild/child, but will open your own eyes to how real faith transforms lives; including your own!

crafting with grandma - a Cool "Techy" Craft!

Did you know that you can use beads to write your name in the ASCII Binary code that computers use? Code Your Name is a fun STEM activity for kids!Okay - this morning I was browsing on Pinterest to see if I could find something fun to share with you, and boy did I! First of all, let me say, I am totally non-technical. While I have a basic understanding of the idea of "binary code", it is not possible to over-emphasize the word "basic" when referring to my understanding of it!

I did not know letters are assigned an eight digit code. I did not know you could take this code for each letter to spell names. I now know these things. I know them because I found a site with info on how to help children learn the binary code to spell their names . . . and had them make a neck-chain with the binary spelling of their name! How cool is this???!!! And even better, it is a STEM activity!!!

Four Days of Fun & I Learned Something to Remember . . .

I have just spent four wonderful nights and four active days with my three incredibly wonderful grandsons! Yes, I am tired, but it is worth every moment of feeling tired for the time I was able to spend with these boys!

We did science projects, played crazy games (sticky fish was a favorite - we played it several times . . . they licked one side of a fish cracker and tried to get it to stick to their face - the one with the most fish on their face in one minute "won"!), but the thing I learned the most from was making tie-dye shirts.

Have you ever felt like the pieces of your life just don't "fit" together? Have you ever felt like there was a "piece" missing? Have you ever wanted God to "put the pieces of your life back together"?

Well, if you have - or even if you haven't, this passage from Psalm 86:10b-17 (The Message) is sure to brighten your day!

Free For You . . . One Illustrate My Own Bible Heroes Book!

I LOVE books for children! I really LOVE Bible adventure books which introduce children to people from the Bible and when those people are some of the "unknown" heroes . . . well, I especially LOVE those adventures!

So, a few years ago I sat down and wrote several Unknown Bible Hero books, but since I'm not really an illustrator, I thought it would be fun to write the books so children could be their own illustrator and illustrate their own book!

grandma's chuckles - Kisses are Weird! (re-run)

I LOVE EVERYTHING about being a grandma . . . the hugs, the kisses, the sweet smiles, reading books, playing games, making cookies . . . the list goes on and on! One of the wonderful things about being a grandma is being able to hear all the sweet things a grandchild says once they begin to talk . . . usually there are a lot of really funny things they say, too!

Science, the Bible & Fun - A Giveaway and it Releases Next Week!

I am almost finished with writing the first year of, Science, the Bible & Fun . . . a curriculum to help grandparents (parents) pass on a heritage of faith to their grandchildren (children). With Science, the Bible & Fun, you will find science projects, crafts, cooking projects, games and most importantly, will be able to help your grandchildren (children) learn how to pray the Psalms and learn about Bible people who made the choice to know, love and walk with God!

This curriculum is easy to use and you will receive the entire 52 weeks in a digital format for just $16. While I wrote it with grandparents in mind, it absolutely is a resource parents could use with their children as well. It is flexible - you could use everything in each week's lesson, spread it out over several days or just use parts - whatever works the best for you. It will be fun, it will be engaging and it will help you - whether you are a grandparent or parent - as you focus on passing on a heritage of faith!
