Power, Love & a Sound Mind

When I think back over the posts I've written in the past few years, many of my favorites make me smile - or even laugh out loud as I remember and think about my sweet grandsons. There are also some which truly express what is in my heart . . . so I decided to share one such post with you again today, it is a great reminder for me . . .
When I look at this world I wonder, and even feel afraid, about what it is going to be like for my grandsons to grow up. When I was a child pretty much everyone went to church. Family values actually meant something and there was still a sense of, "right and wrong" in the world. The world seemed like a more peaceful place; even with the Vietnam war.
While it is certainly possible I was just sheltered and not really aware of what was really going on in the world around me, it still was not like it is today. We didn't have terrorists killing and threatening to kill. We didn't have such hostility to faith and values. We didn't have such open flaunting of sin.
But, the world is what it is today and it is where my grandsons are growing up. I don't want to face this world with fear, so I find 2 Timothy 1:7 to be a great encouragement . . .
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. (2 Timothy 1:7)
God does not want me to be afraid when it comes to my grandsons. He loves them; even more than I do . . . and I love them a tremendously lot! God wants them to love, know and follow Him for all of their lives; even more than I do . . . and I want them to do this, too!
So, as I face these days with my grandsons, I will not have a, "spirit of fear", but of power - there is great power in knowing God is God and He loves my grandsons - even more than I do! I'll have a spirit of love - this is so easy because I love, love, love my grandsons! And, a sound mind - to me this means having perfect peace; look at Isaiah 26:3; "You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You." God will keep me in perfect peace when I keep my mind on Him and trust Him! Looking at the world around me, I definitely want this perfect peace!
So, I'll trust God, keep my mind on Him, focus on His power, love and a sound mind! I hope you will find this same perfect peace as you think about your grandchildren!
