grandma's bookshelf - Mary Had a Little Glam & I'm Giving One Away!

I was recently invited to review a new picture book with a fun "take" on an old, familiar story/song - Mary Had a Little Glam! With school beginning in a month - or so, I thought it sounded like a fun story and said I'd be delighted to take a look at the book. They sent me one copy for free to review and happily, they also said they'd make another available for me to give away!

Mary Had a Little Glam
Author - Tammi Sauer
Illustrator - Vanessa Brantley-Newton
Publisher - Sterling Children's Books
Ages - 3-7

Favorite Features -
  • I love the illustrations! Colorful and fun!
  • Engaging story - fun take on the old, Mary Had a Little Lamb, with nursery-rhyme characters and their first day at school.
  • Encourages imagination, fun and sharing as well as problem solving.
  • I love how the main character - Mary - is a little girl of color.
Sterling Children's Books says; "This little Mary has STYLE! In this fun take on Mother Goose, fashion-forward Mary helps some of childhood's most beloved characters go glam. From the kid who lives in a shoe (and dons some fab footwear, too) to Jack, who breaks his crown but gets a great new one, Mary's school friends look fantastic in their finery. But are they now too well dressed for recess? Not to worry—Mary always shows her flair for what to wear!"

I found Mary Had a Little Glam to be a lot of fun with a story children - especially girls (according to my grandsons) will enjoy.

I'm very happy to say again, not only did Sterling Children's Books send one copy of Mary Had a Little Glam for me to review, but they are making another available for me to give away (USA or Canada only)! If you live in the USA or Canada, are over the age of 18 and would like to be in the drawing, which will be on August 7, 2016, please comment below to let me know a favorite memory of yours from your school days . . . I loved field trip day at the end of school each year throughout elementary school - we took a bus to go see the Grand Rapids Public Museum in the morning, then went to John Ball Zoo for a picnic lunch and spent the afternoon going through the zoo to see the animals. Lots of fun for sure!

In addition, you will receive additional entries if you have followed on Google+, Google Friend Connect, followed by liking on facebook with the tab at this link (not just liking the post) and/or have followed grandma's cookie jar by email. 1. I loved getting to clean the chalkboard erasers. Kids today don't get to do that. I follow on Facebook and email.

  2. Thank you for conducting this contest. I shared/retweeted the link to this website that Sterling posted onTwitter. Mary Had a Little Glam sounds like a fun read and I would love to win a copy. One of my favorite school memories is being in the choir and learning to sing in different languages.
