"attractions" in Michigan, which I have written about; a trip to Legoland/Sea Life, the John Ball Zoo, the Grand Rapids Public Museum, Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park. All of these are places where you pretty much know what to expect . . . we all know what zoos and museums are and legos are pretty much a part of every child's - and grandparent's home.
But, they also visited the Kalamazoo Air Zoo. Yes, I said the Kalamazoo Air Zoo! What is this, you ask? Well, my family wondered as well. They thought maybe it was a museum for airplanes . . . and were pretty sure it would likely be more on the boring side of places to visit, but we were given tickets to visit and review, so a few weeks ago my son, daughter-in-law and grandsons went to check it out.
The first thing I want to say is my family was wonderfully surprised and delighted with their experience at the Air Zoo! They told me it was absolutely not boring . . . in fact, Josiah said it was the opposite! He gave it five stars and said it was as fun as Legoland . . . which, for an almost eight-year-old boy, is saying a lot! They LOVED their visit to the Air Zoo and want to go back another time!
So, what is an Air Zoo? Let me share with you how the Air Zoo describes themselves . . .
"The Air Zoo is a highly charged, multi-sensory atmosphere which goes beyond anything you've ever seen. It's like no place else on Earth!
Voted the 'Best Place to Take Out-of-Towners' and 'Best Place to Spend a Day with Your Family' three years in a row, the Air Zoo features more than 50 rare and historic aircraft, amusement park-style rides, Full-Motion Flight Simulators, RealD 3D/4D Missions Theater, as well as historical exhibits and educational activities."My grandsons enjoyed the rides, loved the flight simulators and had fun running circles around/with R2D2! They also loved building with robots, the 3D/4D movie, being able to sit in the cockpit of a Blue Angel (what boy wouldn't love this!!!), enjoyed the museum displays of airplanes and so much more! If they lived closer to Kalamazoo, this is a place where they would absolutely want to spend a lot of time! (As you can see from the photos!)
If you live in West Michigan, be certain to make plans to visit the Kalamazoo Air Zoo - your grandchildren will love it! If you do not live in this area, definitely put it on your agenda when you visit the area . . . plan for a full day as there is so much to see and do!
The Kalamazoo Air Zoo is a delightful and unexpected surprise - we are so thankful for the opportunity to visit and review it and I'm sure my grandsons will be visiting it again!
