Just a "Peek" Through the Window!

Just a "Peek" Through the Window . . .

I have heard it said, the most exhausted people are grandparents who are raising their grandchildren. And, if it is a single grandparent who is raising their grandchildren, they are even more exhausted.

I am not a single grandparent and my husband and I are not raising our grandchildren, but over the past three months we've been able to experience, on an ever so small level, what it is like to care for your grandchildren more than just when they visit in the day or for a sleepover. And yes, I am exhausted! But, if I'm going to be exhausted and tired, I want it to be for something which matters and my three sweet grandsons absolutely matter!

I have a friend who, with her husband, are raising their young granddaughter and their granddaughter's step brother (no blood relation to my friend or her husband). These grandparents are there for the day-in-day-out care these two young children need and yes, they are truly exhausted.

They are being intentional about sharing Jesus with these two children in a way which they pray will impact them for eternity. It is not easy, but often those things which matter the most are not easy. And this most certainly matters the most.

As I've "peeked through the window" these past few weeks and months, I've been able to see an ever so small glimpse of what it is like to care for grandchildren to some level. I have to say; I am challenged to pray more for those who do this every day.

This is one of the reasons the Legacy Coalition exists - to provide encouragement for grandparents - all grandparents, but certainly those who are facing large challenges . . . whether it is raising grandchildren, single grandparenting, grandparenting from a distance, wanting to grandparent when relationships have crumbled, or whatever the challenge may be. We also exist to call churches to step up and encourage and support the grandparents in their ministries. We are here to help.
