I Am Blessed & Oh, So Thankful!

As I write today, I'm sitting in my warm, dry home watching it rain outside. It is just 39 degrees out today, so I'm particualy thankful to be inside where it is warm and dry. As I look out the window I see brilliant colors, as here in West Michigan we are pretty much at peak color with the leaves changing color, for the most part.

There is the sound of rain on a metal roof - a pleasant sound and I am reminded of how blessed I am. There are places in the world where people hear the sounds of battle. There are places in the world where people do not have shelter. Places where their biggest concern is the safety of their family.

I do not take the safety of my family for granted, I know the boys are at school and after school they will be home, in their warm, dry house with parents who love and care for them. Yes, I am most blessed.

Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and of course we all know what follows Thanksgiving . . . Christmas, where our thoughts go to what we "want". This year it is my prayer and goal to help my grandsons see, understand and be thankful for the big and small ways God abundantly blesses them each and every day. Yes, they will receive gifts from their Poppa and I, but I want them to be people who are truly thankful for God's many blessings and not just people who think about what they "want".

Part of how this will be accomplished is for me to model being truly thankful. Children do "pick up" and copy the things they see and hear us do and say as well as the attitudes they see in us, so this grandma will voice her thanks, do things which show I'm thankful and have a heart attitude of genuine thankfulness - over the coming two months and every day following!
