Summer Fun - Legoland & Sea Life!

My grandsons are like many children - they love Legos. They can play for hours with their Legos, so when a Legoland Discovery Center went in just two hours away, I knew the boys would enjoy checking it out. I contacted Legoland and asked if it was possible to review it for my blog - they said, "yes" and invited me to also check out Sea Life as well. (So you know, Legoland Discovery Centers/Sea Life provided tickets for my family to visit for review purposes.)

My son, daughter-in-law and grandsons visited both Legoland and Sea Life a couple days ago, and today I'm very happy for the opportunity to share their experience with you, but first, some information about Legoland Discovery Centers.

There are currently 15 Legoland Discovery Centers around the world with eight in the USA. My family visited the Legoland Discovery Center near Detroit. One of the nice things about Legoland Discovery Center is they provide hours of indoor fun for families with children ages 3 to 10. Check out some of the features you'll find on your visit . . .

The Top Five "Do-Not's" for Grandparents - #3 - Don't Forget to Show Love in the Little Ways

Yes, there are many things we do as grandparents to show love to our grandchildren - big things . . . but there are also little things we need to remember to do as well. We may think the little things do not really matter, but the thing about the little things is sometimes they are actually the "big" things.

With this in mind, let's look at my #3 of my Top Five "Do-Not's" for Grandparents . . .

I want to let you know about an amazing opportunity you have to hear Chuck Swindoll, Josh McDowell, Tim Kimmel, Gary Chapman, John Trent, Wayne Rice, Larry Fowler and many more nationally known speakers talk about grandparenting . . . yes, grandparenting!

Just the opportunity to hear one or two of these speakers is something which would likely get your attention and capture your attention, but all these people, and many more, will be speaking at the first-ever National Grandparenting Summit, November 15-17, 2016.

My Top Five "Do-Not's" for Grandparents - #5 - Do Not Fail To Greet With Enthusiasm

When it comes to being grandma - or grandpa - there are so many wonderful things we get to do; things which bring us joy . . . and sometimes hugs, kisses, snuggles, "I love yous" and a great laugh, too! But, there are also things we must be careful not to do, so for the next few days I'm sharing with you my Top Five "Do-Not's" for Grandparents, beginning today with #5 . . .

grandma's cookbook - Butter Sugar Cookies

My family loves homemade cookies. They especially love them when they are soft as opposed to hard or crunchy. So, when I make cookies I do two things . . . not being a professional baker, I do not know for sure these two things contribute to the softness of my cookies, but I have a feeling they do. What are these two things, you ask? Well . . .

grandma's chuckles - "But I'm Your Sweetie Pie!"

My youngest grandson does not tend to like it when I call him anything other than his name. If I call him, "sweetie", he says; "I'm not sweetie, I'm Shane!" If I call him, "honey", he says; "I'm not honey, I'm Shane!" If I call him, big boy, the says; "I'm not big boy, I'm Shane!" You get the idea. It doesn't matter what I call him, if it isn't, "Shane", he reminds me what his name is.

Yesterday when he was at my house, he was climbing on his older brother when he was trying to read. Josiah kept telling Shane to leave him alone and stop climbing on him, to no avail. Finally I told Shane if he did not leave Josiah alone so he could read, I would have to give him a time-out. Of course, being two, he didn't take me seriously and climbed on Josiah again.

I picked him up and sat down with him for his time-out, to which he said; "But I'm your sweetie pie!!!"

It is true, he is my sweetie pie, but he still had to sit for his two minutes of time-out. I have been laughing about this for the last day . . . and expect to do so for quite some time!

What have your grandchildren said/done lately which put a smile on your face?

DIY Soothing, Healing Skin Cream

One of my grandsons has a pretty serious case of eczema - the poor, sweet angel scratches his arms, legs, tummy and hands until they actually bleed - it is so sad. We, and his parents, have of course tried a number of creams and ointments to give him relief, but so far have had limited success,

So, yesterday my daughter sent me a link for a site with a "recipe" for making my own cream . . . since I have experienced amazing success with essential oils in regards to bug spray, asthma and knee pain, I thought I'd give it a try. I looked up several recipes and what different essential oils are supposed to do and have a recipe I will be trying tomorrow (when my supplies arrive).

In case you have need for a cream to help with dry, itchy, inflamed skin, here is the recipe I'm going to try if you would like to do so as well . . .

The Top Five Ways to Show Love to My Grandchildren . . . #2 - Hug, Snuggle & Kiss!

I've been writing about my Top Five Ways to Show Love to My Grandchildren and today's
"way" is really pretty much a "no-brainer", but may be something we do less of as our grandchildren get older. It is easy to hug and snuggle our grandchildren when they are little, but they still need hugs when they are older . . . so, today my #2 way to Show Love to my Grandchildren is - hug, snuggle & kiss . . .

More Summer Fun Ideas!

Dry Ice Bubbles - Science fun for kids: Yesterday I posted my Ultimate Summer Bucket List for children which I found on Pinterest. Since my grandsons were over, we tried making things with marshmallows and toothpicks . . . I only had large marshmallows, but they still had fun . . . and several marshmallows were eaten!

Today I found another link with more fun Summer ideas which could be added to a "bucket list" for the summer. I think I'm definitely going to put together the scavenger hunt list for the boys . . . I live in the country, have a nice, large yard (about one acre) and it has many varieties of trees, so I'm sure I could come up with a fun list!

The Top Five Ways to Show Love to My Grandchildren . . . #3 - Greet with Joy!

As we continue to think about showing love to our grandchildren, today I'm happy to share with you my third way I show love to my grandsons from my Top Five . . .

The Ultimate Summer Bucket List for Children!

This Summer I will be blessed to spend a lot of time with my grandsons - they will come over first thing on Tuesday mornings, spend the day, the night and then go home after supper on Wednesday. Friday mornings, they will come over, spend the day, have another sleepover and then go home Saturday - either after lunch or after supper.

While we are just beginning our Summer schedule - as the boys had their last day of school last week, I do expect it will not take long before they are looking for things to do. So, this morning as I browsed Pinterest, I was very happy to see a pin filled with ideas to give children an, "Ultimate Summer Bucket List"! There are 29 fun ideas - I especially like making smores using a pizza box, playing the silliest game ever and making bubbles which bounce!

You'll find all the ideas for this, "Ultimate Summer Bucket List" at the following link . . . which ideas will you try this Summer with your grandchildren?

The Top Five Ways to Show Love to My Grandchildren . . . #5 - Say It!

Grandmas - or grandparents - and "love" go hand-in-hand and showing this love to our sweet grandchildren just comes naturally, but this week I thought I'd write about my Top Five Ways to Show Love to My Grandchildren . . . beginning with #5 today . . .

grandma's chuckles - "The Answer to Happiness is Lemonade!"

Most Friday nights my grandsons spend the night at my house. We love sleepovers! This past Friday was a sleepover Friday. On Saturday morning Josiah came over to me with a huge smile on his face and said; "Grandma, the answer to happiness is lemonade!Of course after laughing, I got the sweet and funny boy a glass of lemonade!

Today, after laughing some more, I got to thinking about the "answer" to happiness. Far to often we think we require "more" and "bigger" and the "newest" and the "best" in order for us to be happy. But this is not true. More,  bigger, newest and best do not mean we will be happy, because there is always more to be had, something bigger out there, the next new thing is just around the corner and the "best" is relative. If we seek after these things, we will find happiness eludes us; as will our grandchildren if they seek after these things as well.

Fortunately Matthew 6:25-34 tells us where we will find happiness . . .

When We Wholly Trust God, We Will Find Him Wholly True!

When I was young going to church meant we would be spending time singing the old hymns from the hymnals; It Is Well With My Soul, The Old Rugged Cross, Amazing Grace, Just As I Am - old songs where the lyrics were sound and they challenged and encouraged us in our walk with God. I loved these songs then - and still love them today.

I wrote about this and how one of my favorite old hymns - Like a River Glorious - reminds me, no matter what I see in the news . . . and these days there is no shortage of scary things in the news, God's perfect peace is constant a few days ago on the Legacy Coalition facebook page - you'll find it at this link.

Know, Respect & Honor

I recently wrote a post for the Legacy Coalition facebook page which I want to encourage you to read today. In it I talk about how Deuteronomy 31:13 challenged me to focus on what is most important . . . helping my grandsons know, respect and honor God for themselves.

You will find the post at this link - please read it and then the next time you are with your grandchildren (or make time to call, email or snail mail them), be sure to share with them what you do to know, respect and honor God. Help them do the same by . . .

The Top Five Things I Want to See in My Grandsons' Lives - #4 - They Have Great Joy!

Yesterday I shared how one of the most important things I want to see in my grandsons' lives is for them to grow to become men of prayer. I know and believe with all my heart, if they are boys, then teens and one day men, who are serious about talking with God, they will be far, far more likely to make wise choices and live lives which glorify God.

Being men of prayer is very important to me, but so is the #4 thing on my "list" . . .

There are absolutely things I want them to know, but I want what they know to move from their head to their heart, so they are shown in the way they live their everyday lives, every day.

As grandparents we all have things we hope and pray for in regards to our grandchildren; this week I'll share with you my Top Five Things I Want to See in my Grandsons' Lives starting today with #5 . . .

The Top Five Things I Want My Grandsons to Learn!

As I have been saying for the past few days, life truly is a journey; one where we are constantly learning, but when it comes to my grandsons, while I certainly want them to learn to read and love learning in general, there are some things which are at the top of my list of things I want them to learn. Today I'm happy to share the thing which is at the top of my list . . .

The Top Five Things I Want My Grandsons to Learn - #2 - They Can Love God Back & Know Him!

For the past few days I've been talking about some of the most important things I want my grandchildren to learn. There are many things I want them to learn, but one of the most important is most certainly the following . . .

Thursday, June 9, 2016

The Top Five Things I Want My Grandsons to Learn - #3 - What it Means to Truly Love Others!

Throughout our grandchildren's lives we tend to mark moments when they learn something; for example -
  • When they learn to stand.
  • When they learn to walk.
  • When they learn to talk.
  • When they learn to read.
  • When they learn to drive.
  • When they learn enough to graduate.
And the list goes on. While these are all things I've rejoiced as my grandsons have learned - and look forward to them learning, there are some things which are the most important things for them to learn. I've been sharing these with you over the past couple days and today I'm sharing another - #3 . . .

The Top Five Things I Want My Grandsons to Learn - #4 - God is Big & Able Enough & They Can Trust Him!

I love it when my grandsons learn something new! I love it when they are able to learn, understand and use "big" words. I love it when they learn to read - and when they read to me. I love it when they work on a science project with me and are able to understand the point of the project. I look forward to the day when they learn to drive and receive their driver's licenses . . . they say they will drive to visit me often!

Yes, there are many things I want my grandsons to learn and do throughout their lives, but the following is one of the most important . . .

Children's Day is This Sunday!

FYI . . . This coming Sunday is Children's Day! (If you look it up on Google, it says the USA celebrates Children's Day on the second Sunday in June - this has been the official date since the 1800's - I really did not make this holiday up!!!)

The Top Five Things I Want My Grandsons to Learn - #5 - God's Grace is Big Enough!

Life truly is a journey; one upon which we are constantly learning, but when it comes to my grandsons, while I certainly want them to learn to read and love learning in general, there are some things which are at the top of my list of things I want them to learn. For the next few days, I'm going to share with you my Top Five Things I Want My Grandsons to Learn, beginning today with #5 . . .

grandma's new bug spray!

I have MS and Lupus . . . which means, I tend to experience pain on a regular basis. I do not want to take pain-killers for several reasons, but mostly because they make me sleep and I do not want to sleep away my life and because I know it is far, too easy for people to become addicted to pain-killers. So, I tended to just push through and try to ignore the pain - some times this is easier than others.

But recently I learned about essential oils. I thought they might be worth a try - at the worst, they do nothing and I could have spent the money better. At the best, they help! I mixed some almond oil with a little peppermint essential oil and another mixture of almond oil and orange essential oil. I put these on my knees and the pain truly is significantly less! I am impressed!

crafting with grandma - Nature Art T-Shirts!

This awesome outdoor process art activity for kids comes with an optional science extension.: Each Summer, for the previous three years, I plan some extra time to have my grandsons at my house. We have our "Days of Fun" and do science projects, enjoy water wars with squirt guns, swim, visit fire departments, play games, to mention a few and just basically enjoy being together! One thing we have done each year is make t-shirts. We made tie-dye shirts two years and we tried a project where the boys used spray paint to freestyle design shirts. The end result each year - other than grandma's hands being very colorful for a few days - has been colorful t-shirts for the boys.

This morning as I browsed on Pinterest I saw an idea which could be adjusted a bit and "tweaked" to apply to t-shirts . . . and give us a fun idea for the boy's shirts this Summer! The idea I saw involves children collecting bits of nature, which they arranged on paper and then sprayed with water colored by food coloring. It looks like a fun project! (You'll find it at this link.)

Look at What People Are Saying About Deeper In 4 Grandparents & Parents, Too! Praying the Scriptures for the Children You Love!

Yesterday I was very happy to share with you about my books - Deeper In 4 Grandparents & Parents, Too! Praying the Scriptures for the Children You Love - Psalms Edition and Deeper In 4 Grandparents & Parents, Too! Praying the Scriptures for the Children You Love - Old Testament Edition how they can help grandparents and parents pray intentionally and regularly for themselves and the children they love. I also shared one complete week with you, so you can give it a try!

I do believe they are books which will prove to be very useful tools for grandparents and parents . . . but, then I did write them, so it is possible my opinion would tend towards the "biased" side!

So, today I thought it would be fun to share with you some of the opinions of people who read my books before they were released . . .

Praying Intentionally - Deeper In . . . Give It a Try for Free!

Deeper In 4 Grandparents & Parents, Too!Deeper In 4 Grandparents & Parents, Too!Praying grandparents. We all want to be praying grandparents. We all try to be praying grandparents, but how faithful are you in praying for your grandchildren - or children? Do you pray every day? Are you focused and intentional in how you pray? Or, do you feel like your prayers do not even reach the ceiling? Do you feel like you do not really know how to pray? Do you find it a challenge to pray every day? Whether we are grandparents or parents we know how important it is to pray for the children we love, but if we are honest, we may admit we struggle with praying faithfully.

It does not have to be this way.

Science, The Bible & Fun . . . Give It A Try for Free!

Today is June 1st and Summer is almost upon us! My grandsons get out of school on the 15th (Josiah's prayer request for me last week was for school to at least "seem" like it is going faster for these last two weeks!) and then I will be able to see them more - we are adding an extra sleepover each week throughout the summer! After all, what would summer be without more time with the grandsons?

I'm looking forward to spending more time with my three sweet boys and part of this time will be spent intentionally focused on helping my grandsons know and walk more closely with Jesus! To do this we will be using my Science the Bible & Fun! curriculum. I wrote it to use with my grandsons and since they love the science projects and activities - it seems like a great "fit" for this Summer!
