Birthday Month Giveaway on May 21, 2017 - Big Little Hippo

One thing we all experience as grandparents and parents is how our grandchildren go through times when they are impatient to grow up; times when they do not want to be "little". This is the idea behind a new book from Sterling Children's Books, which they set me to review.

Big Little Hippo
Author/Illustrator - Valeri Gorbachev
Publisher - Sterling Children's Books
Ages - 3-6

Favorite Features -
  • I love the idea for this story - even little ones can do big things and be big
  • Beautiful illustrations
  • Encourages opportunities to have important conversations with little ones about how they are able to be "big"!
Sterling Children's Books says; "Little Hippo is the youngest in his family . . . and the smallest. Smaller than his parents and siblings. Smaller than his friends, too, from old Crocodile to giant Elephant. And even though everyone promises he’ll grow, Little Hippo doesn’t want to wait. He wants to be big RIGHT NOW! But when he helps a creature even tinier than himself, Little Hippo learns it’s the size of his heart which counts most of all."

My youngest grandson (three years old) loves the story of Big Little Hippo! The idea of being "big" while being "little" is one with which he is able to understand and identify. I think Big Little Hippo is a cute story, with fun characters and love how it provides a wonderful opportunity to talk with little ones - and even bigger ones, too - about how they are able to show they have big hearts by caring about others and doing all they are able to do to help.

I'm very happy to say, not only did Sterling Children's Books send me one copy of Big Little Hippo to review, but they are making another available for me to give away (USA only). If you are over the age of 18 and would like to enter this drawing - which will be on May 212017, please comment below to tell me what you might encourage your grandchildren to do to show they have a big heart and are big helpers . . . yesterday I had my grandsons show their "big" hearts helping their poppa (who has pneumonia) by picking up sticks in our yard.

In addition if you have followed on Google Friend Connect, followed by liking on facebook with the tab in the "Find us on Facebook" box ON THE BLOG or at this link (not just liking the post) and/or have followed grandma's cookie jar by email you will receive one entry for each of these which you have done. Plus, if you "share" this post, you'll receive another entry (please let me know if you share). This will help me be able to draw names from among people who would like to win one Big Little Hippo and it gives you several ways to enter the give-away! Thank you for reading grandma's cookie jar and for sharing it with the people you know!
