Maurice the Unbeastly - I'm Giving One Away!

I have three grandsons - ages four, six and nine, so around this grandma's house, stories about monsters and beasts are not uncommon and are enjoyed. So, when I was invited by Sterling Children's Books to review a new book about a beast, I knew my grandsons were likely to enjoy it.

Today I'm happy to share my review with you - and let you know my grandsons loved this book!

Maurice the Unbeastly

Author - Amy Dixon
Illustrator - Karl James Mountford
Publisher - Sterling Children's Books
Ages - 3-7

Favorite Features -

  • This book made my grandsons laugh!
  • Fun illustrations
  • Solid messages about how everyone has something of value to offer and it is fine - even great - for it to not be what everyone else offers.
Sterling Children's Books says; "Beasts roar! Beasts destroy! But not Maurice. This frightfully unbeastly tale about staying true to yourself is for everyone who’s just a little bit different. With his melodious voice, fondness for kale, and unfailing politeness, Maurice isn’t quite like other beasts. So his concerned Mama and Papa send their ridiculously photogenic beastie to the Abominable Academy for Brutish Beasts to learn how to behave badly. Will Maurice master growling, scowling, snarling, and howling? Or will he prove being different is a good thing after all?"

When Maurice the Unbeastly arrived, I read it to my youngest grandson - and he was delighted! He thought the part in the end about the dog was absolutely hilarious! I am always a fan of a good story which captures my grandsons' attention and encourages their imagination . . . Maurice the Unbeastly does both of these things!

I'm happy to say, not only did Sterling Children's Books send me one copy of Maurice the Unbeastly for review, but they are making another available for me to give away (USA only)! If you are over the age of 18 and would like to enter this drawing for one Maurice the Unbeastly which will be on September 27, 2017, please comment below to tell me what type of stories are enjoyed at your home - around here monster and alien stories - especially with slime and black holes - are favorites!

In addition if you have followed on Google Friend Connect, followed by liking on facebook with the tab in the "Find us on Facebook" box ON THE BLOG or at this link (not just liking the post) and/or have followed grandma's cookie jar by email you will receive one entry for each of these which you have done. Plus, if you "share" this post, you'll receive another entry (please let me know if you share).
