2017 Christmas Gift Review & Giveaway - November 14, 2017 - 'Twas the Evening of Christmas

Last week I was invited to review some new book releases from Zonderkidz - they arrived this morning and I love these two books so much, I had to share one of them with you today! This book is a lot of fun - and a great way to review the account of Jesus' birth - perfect for Christmas for sure!

'Twas the Evening of Christmas
Author - Glenys Nellist
Illustrator - Elena Selivanova
Publisher - Zonderkidz
Ages - 4+

Favorite Features -
  • Fun "take" on the classic - "The Night Before Christmas"
  • Beautiful, detailed and colorful illustrations - although I'd rather see the angels look more like the warriors they are than girls.
  • Wonderful to read at Christmas - and any time of the year

Zonderkidz says; "'’Twas the evening of Christmas, when all through the town, Every inn was so crowded, no room could be found. Tired Mary and Joseph, who went door to door,
At last found a place on a small stable floor.'
For over 200 years, families have gathered on Christmas Eve to hear the much loved words of Dr. Clement C. Moore’s '’Twas the Night Before Christmas.' This year, families will be able to gather together to share the real Christmas story––the story of Jesus’ birth. ’Twas the Evening of Christmas echoes the familiar language and rhythm of Dr. Clements’ poetry, but instead of focusing on Santa, it focuses on the baby Jesus, who is, after all, the true hero of Christmas. All families will delight in this simple retelling of the most famous story ever told. With a cover which comes alive with foil and sculpted embossing, this book is sure to become a Christmas classic."

I completely agree - this book is sure to become a Christmas classic. I love how it does focus on the "true Hero of Christmas" - Jesus! This is truly my favorite book by Glenys - well done, Glenys!

I'm very happy to say, not only did Zonderkidz send me one copy of 'Twas the Evening of Christmas for me to review, but they are making another available for me to give away (USA only). If you are over the age of 18 and would like to enter this drawing for one 'Twas the Evening of Christmas which will be on November 14, 2017, please comment below to share about a Christmas tradition at your home - we start our celebrating by putting up the tree after Thanksgiving dinner and the focus of our decorations is a crocheted Nativity set which I crocheted.

In addition if you have followed on Google Friend Connect, followed by liking on facebook with the tab in the "Find us on Facebook" box ON THE BLOG or at this link (not just liking the post) and/or have followed grandma's cookie jar by email you will receive one entry for each of these which you have done. Plus, if you "share" this post, you'll receive another entry (please let me know if you share). This will help me be able to draw names from among people who would like to win one 'Twas the Evening of Christmas and it gives you several ways to enter the give-away! Thank you for reading grandma's cookie jar and for sharing it with the people you know!

  2. My favorite tradition is gifting each of my children a new pair of slippers and PJs on Christmas Eve. After I drive them around in my truck while they sip on hot cocoa and watch all the Christmas lights :-)
