It is National Ice Cream Day!

I have three sweet boys at my house today and since it is National Ice Cream Day, we are celebrating! The first thing the boys wanted to do to celebrate was to eat ice cream - of course! So, while I do not typically let them have ice cream at 9am, since it is National Ice Cream Day, I said, "Yes!"

It is likely they will have more ice cream later in the day . . . after all, it is National Ice Cream Day!

So, in honor of National Ice Cream Day, here are some fun facts about Ice Cream which I found at this link . . .
  • In the 5th Century BC the ancient Greeks enjoyed a dessert similar to ice cream
  • The Ice Cream churn was invented in the 1860's
  • In 1904 the waffle cone was invented
  • In 1929, other than vanilla, chocolate and strawberry, Rocky Road was a favorite flavor of ice cream
  • In 1984 July was "dubbed" National Ice Cream Month
  • Today, next to cookies, ice cream is the best selling treat in America
  • New Zealand eats the most ice cream per capita, but the USA comes in second!
  • 87% of Americans have ice cream in their freezer at any moment in time
  • A cow gives enough milk to make two gallons of ice cream a day - it takes three gallons of milk to make one gallon of ice cream
  • It takes about 50 licks to finish a single scoop ice cream cone

Well, enjoy National Ice Cream Day - I will be celebrating with some ice cream - likely Häagen-Dazs vanilla ice cream with chocolate and almond coating! How will you celebrate?
