Let's Leave a Legacy

The Grandmother's Bible is a NIV Bible with 365 days of studies in the text to help grandmas focus upon being people who hand down a heritage of faith to their grandchildren. For example, look at the devotion which goes with the Bible reading from Judges 2:6-3:6. In verses 10-12 of chapter two we read . . .

After that whole generation had been gathered to their fathers, another generation grew up, who knew neither the LORD nor what He had done for Israel Then the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the LORD and served the Baals. They forsook the LORD, the God of their fathers, who had brought them out of Egypt. They followed and worshiped various gods of the peoples around them. They provoked the LORD to anger.
In the "Leaving a Legacy" devotional written by Jean Syswerda, which goes with this passage, she says; "We have the chance to ensure our generation doesn't grow up knowing nothing of God or His deeds. We can let all the years have taught us about God spill over in abundance into our lives, building a legacy of faith and trust, an inheritance of knowing all about God's goodness and depending on Him."

There are many sad parts in the Bible, but these verses are one of the saddest - God's people knew Him. They experienced first hand how He freed them from Egypt, stood with them and even fought for them as they reached the land He promised them. The parents and grandparents knew the Lord and what He did for them. But their children and grandchildren did not know God. The parents and grandparents did not leave a Legacy of Faith with the generations which came behind them.

There is nothing more important to me than knowing my grandsons know, love and walk with God all their lives. This is one grandma who will do all I am able to do to ensure my grandsons grow up knowing God!
