- "Jake the Jailbird" is the name of the guy in jail on a Monopoly board.
- The police officer in the opposite corner on the Monopoly board is "Officer Edgar Mallory."
- According to Baum Family legend, the name for Oz in the "Wizard of Oz" was thought up when the creator, Frank Baum, looked at his filing cabinet and saw A-N, and O-Z, hence "Oz."
- Dandelion was called "lion’s tooth" in Britain. The French translation is "dent de lion," adapted by Americans as "dandelion."
- The piggy bank got its name from the clay called "pygg" used to make jars in which people stored money.
- In Disney's "Fantasia", the Sorcerer's name is "Yensid." (Disney backwards.)
- Only two states' names begin with double consonants: Florida and Rhode Island.
- The names of all the continents end with the same letter that they start with, e.g. Asia, Europe.
Which fun fact is the most interesting or surprising to you? I thought several were, but if I had to pick one I guess I'd pick the one about the Dandelion!
