Holiness over Happiness

Many grandparents and parents will tell you they want their grandchildren/grown children to be happy. While I do want the ones I love to be happy, I really want them to be people who live holy lives more than I want them to be happy. Happiness is nice, but depends on circumstances . . . I may be happy one moment, then receive sad news and no longer be happy.

Holiness is different. Living a holy live does not depend upon circumstances. It is about living our lives in a way which reflects God's Word and brings glory to Him . . . and when we do, we receive the gift of joy . . . which is significantly better than just being "happy"!

So, yes, I do like it when my grown children/grandsons are happy . . . I love to hear them laugh and see their great smiles, but more than I want them to be happy, I want them to be people who choose to live holy lives, who choose to do what glorifies God, and who experience God's gift of joy!

This is what is really important!
