When one of my grandsons was younger, he had a pretty serious case of eczema. We, and his parents, tried a number of creams and ointments to give him relief, but had limited success.
In case you have need for a cream to help with dry, itchy, inflamed skin, here is the recipe . . .
- 16 ounces of shea butter
- 1/4 cup aloe vera
- 1/4 cup jojoba oil - it will help provide moisture and help skin absorb the cream
- 1/4 cup sweet almond oil - it is hydrating and helps relieve itchiness
- 15 drops of lavender oil - it is one of the most valuable oils for skincare as it helps new cells grow, kills bacteria, is antibiotic and prevents scarring as it provides relief from, pain - definitely using lavender!
- 7 drops tea tree oil - it stimulates the immune system and prevents fungal, bacterial and viral infections - but can dry the skin, so I'm using just a bit and this is also why I'm using jojoba oil for extra moisture.
- 7 drops sweet orange oil - it is an anti-inflammatory oil
- 10 drops geranium oil - it provides healing quickly while also giving relief from pain and the discomfort which comes with eczema.
- 1/4 cup oatmeal - grind it to a powder like flour and add to the mixture to soothe the skin and reduce itching.
Have any of you ever tried an essential oil cream? If so, did it work for you?
