DIY Soothing, Healing Skin Cream

When one of my grandsons was younger, he had a pretty serious case of eczema. We, and his parents, tried a number of creams and ointments to give him relief, but had limited success.

So, yesterday my daughter sent me a link for a site with a "recipe" for making my own cream . . . since I have experienced amazing success with essential oils in regards to bug spray, asthma, and knee pain, this may be worth mixing up and keeping on hand. I looked up several recipes and what different essential oils are supposed to do and have a recipe to try.

In case you have need for a cream to help with dry, itchy, inflamed skin, here is the recipe  . . .
  • 16 ounces of shea butter
  • 1/4 cup aloe vera
  • 1/4 cup jojoba oil - it will help provide moisture and help skin absorb the cream
  • 1/4 cup sweet almond oil - it is hydrating and helps relieve itchiness
  • 15 drops of lavender oil - it is one of the most valuable oils for skincare as it helps new cells grow, kills bacteria, is antibiotic and prevents scarring as it provides relief from, pain - definitely using lavender!
  • 7 drops tea tree oil - it stimulates the immune system and prevents fungal, bacterial and viral infections - but can dry the skin, so I'm using just a bit and this is also why I'm using jojoba oil for extra moisture.
  • 7 drops sweet orange oil - it is an anti-inflammatory oil
  • 10 drops geranium oil - it provides healing quickly while also giving relief from pain and the discomfort which comes with eczema.
  • 1/4 cup oatmeal - grind it to a powder like flour and add to the mixture to soothe the skin and reduce itching.
Basically, just mix all these ingredients together with a mixer.

Have any of you ever tried an essential oil cream? If so, did it work for you?
