grandma's cookbook . . . Cherry Jam Thumbprint Cookies!

If you enjoy baking cookies with your grandchildren and want to try a recipe which you may not typically make, consider this recipe for Cherry Jam Thumbprint Cookies (I found it at this link and "tweaked" it just a bit) . . .

Ingredients -
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 2/3 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup dark sweet cherry jam
Directions -
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • In a medium bowl, cream together butter and white sugar until smooth. Mix in 1/2 teaspoon almond extract. Mix in flour until dough comes together. Roll dough into 1 1/2 inch balls, and place on ungreased cookie sheets. Make a small hole in the center of each ball, using your thumb and finger, and fill the hole with preserves.
  • Bake for 14 to 18 minutes in preheated oven, or until lightly browned. Let cool 1 minute on the cookie sheet.
  • enjoy
So . . . where do you get dark sweet cherry jam??? Check this site for amazing cherry items - Cherry Republic! They sent me some of their cherry jam to review and it is amazing! They also sent me some of their White Chocolate Cherry Boomchunka Cookies . . . and they were an absolute delight!

As you make these cookie with your grandchildren, take a moment to look at their thumbprint. Talk with them about how their thumbprint is unique to them . . . nobody else has a thumbprint like theirs! They are a special creation of God and He loves them! Pray with your grandchild and thank God for creating them to be the unique person they are!
