Have you started pulling out your Christmas cookie recipes to fill your home with some of the best "parts" of Christmas . . . the sight, aroma, and flavor of cookies? This is the time of year to gather your grandchildren and get them elbow-deep in flour, butter, sugar and busy making cookies . . . and of course "sneaking" cookie dough and finished cookies, too! As you consider which cookies you want to make this year, consider adding this one to your list -
- 1 cup softened butter
- 1/2 cup brown sugar - packed
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- cookie sprinkles
Directions -
- preheat oven to 350
- cream butter and sugars until light and fluffy.
- Beat in eggs and vanilla.
- Mix flour, cream of tatar, baking soda, salt and nutmeg and add to creamed mixture.
- Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls onto ungreased baking sheets
- top with cookie sprinkles
- bake for 8-10 minutes or until light brown.
- cook on wire rack
- enjoy!
Play Christmas music and sing along while you make your cookies and talk with your grandchildren about what they are most looking forward to this Christmas. After they share their "wish list" talk with them about something they could do to give to others . . . package some of the cookies and give to an elderly neighbor, or your local fire department. Help them realize while there are a lot of "fun" things for them to do at Christmas, the best part of it all is focusing on giving to others!
