Hand Down the Faith with Mystery Bags - Make Bird Feeders & Talk About God's Great Love

Valentine's Day is just a couple weeks away, so if you are looking for a project which your grandchildren could do . . . and one which has a purpose, then look at this great idea I found on Pinterest for a Valentine's Day Bird Feeder!

You will need -
Valentine's Day Bird-Feeder Craft. great school part activity/craft
  • Paper lunch bags - one per grandchild
  • Chenille wire - several per grandchild
  • Oat cereal shaped like an "O"
Have your grandchildren open their bags and show them how to string the cereal on the chenille wire, twist the ends together and shape into a heart. Simple! This fun project is one which I have made with my grandsons - and it is great no matter the age as little ones are able to do it and older ones still enjoy the project.

As you work on the bird feeders, talk about how God shows His amazing love for us by creating such a beautiful world, filled with so many wonderful creatures! If you have a book with birds in it, get it out and look through it together; find birds which are the most unusual, the prettiest, the ugliest, and the most crazy looking! You could also do this on-line if you do not have a bird book!

Consider having your grandchildren make extra bird feeders which they could share with their neighbors . . . they could also make a really fun item to give as their Valentines to their friends - have them make a zippy with a finished feeder and the supplies, so their friends could make one of their own as well! So, gather the supplies and plan for a time (in person or through tech) to get together with the ones you love, have some fun, and hand down confident faith - all at the same time!
