Quite a few years back, I was sent the book, 500 Baskets: A Celebration of the Basketmaker's Art to review - it is a beautiful book filled with amazing photos of baskets of all types. Today I'm sharing one of the baskets with you, which was designed and made by Mary Lee Fulkerson, as it is a fun basket you could make with your grandchildren for their mothers for Mother's Day - it may take a month to gather, design, and build this wonderful basket . . . depending on how often you see your grandchildren in a month.
The "Fiesta" basket is made from sticks and cable ties - while there are no directions for making it, I helped a child make one back in 2005 and it was a lot of fun.
- Gather sticks and cable ties.
- Start making a base by connecting sticks and ties to make a bottom to your basket.
- Add sticks going up and around, fastening with cable ties, until you have a basket with which you are happy,
