Books & Resources to Give to Your Grandchildren - Christmas Gifts Which Make a Difference

Christmas is just around the corner, if giving books is part of your gift-giving tradition, or if you would like to give your grandchildren a gift which truly makes a difference and will help them learn to walk with God with a confident faith, consider these resources . . .

  • Praying Deeper Through the Psalms for Children is unique in two ways; first, it is specifically written and developed for children ages four through 14 to help them learn to pray by praying the Psalms back to God and secondly, my grandsons collaborated with me on developing, writing this book and by providing most of the illustrations!  The initial idea I (Lynda Freeman) had for this book was to write a resource to help my grandsons learn to be people who talked with God; so I took the reading schedule from my book; Praying Deeper Through the Psalms for Grandparents & Parents, Too! and used it to form the basis for the book for children. Each week's passage in the children's book, matches the passage for the week in the book for grandparents and parents - making it a wonderful resource for families to use to read and pray through the Psalms for a year as children use this book and grandparents and parents us the other. Can you just imagine what it would be like to do this with the children you love?! Each week's passage in Praying Deeper Through the Psalms for Children is written into three, age-level "nutshell prayers" . . . one with simple images non-readers will be able to learn and "read", so they are able to pray the Psalms; a simple prayer for beginning readers and a bit longer prayer for older children who read well. This is a book which you are truly able to give to your grandchildren/children ages four through 14. You will find more about it, as well as what people are saying about it at this link.
  • With books from the illustrate my own Unknown Bible Hero series - you, and the children you love, will be able to learn all about Bible people and how they chose to talk with, love and follow God. They will also be able to think through and illustrate these true Bible events and in so doing, make the books their own in a unique and fun way! You will find more about them at this link.
  • Life on the Goldilocks Planet series - these twelve books will engage the children you love like no other book about animals with science projects, crafts, recipes, games, quotes from scientists, and full color photos and fun facts. Most important, they will help you hand down confident faith as you learn how we are all able to believe God is real and God and science DO go together! You will find them at this link.
  • The truth matters and we need to know the truth. This does not mean we have to be theologians, scientists, philosophers, or apologists, but we do need to find answers. We do need to know the "whys", so we are able to teach them as part of a firm foundation we set for the ones we love, and so we are able to answer their questions if they have already turned from their faith. This is the purpose for the little answer book for children - to help you equip the children you love so they discover the "whys" for their faith.

As the children you love participate in activities, science projects, think about important questions, and journal their answers, they will learn the "whys" for their faith, and find they are able to have a confident faith! Is there anything more important for them to learn? You will find the book at this link.

Make this Christmas the year you give your children/grandchildren gifts which will help them understand and live God's Word, gifts which give you the opportunity to connect with them over God's Word, books which will help them have a confident faith so they are able to grow in their own walk with God - what could possibly be a better gift? Please help spread the word so the parents/grandparents you know will be able to give them to the children they love as well.
