I have been writing about Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park which is a place where there are so many beautiful and amazing things to see all year long, but this is even more true now through November 1st as the Dale Chihuly exhibit is able to be enjoyed throughout the Sculpture Park on the edge of Grand Rapids, Michigan. I thought it would be interesting to share with you some information I found online about the beautiful sculptures you are able to see throughout the park and a bit of background on each piece - today I'm happy to give you a closer look at CHIHULY Mottled Trumpet Flowers & Plum Feathers at Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park . . .

Mottled Trumpet Flowers and Plum Feathers (2024) is a vibrant, organic blown-glass sculpture created by renowned artist Dale Chihuly. It is featured in the major outdoor summer exhibition at the Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Mottled Trumpet Flowers and Plum Feathers was first created in 2024. It measures 76 × 78 × 54 inches and belongs to the artist's vibrant floral-inspired Fiori (Italian for "flowers") and architectural glass genre.

Exhibition Details

Location: Placed outdoors in Vickie’s Garden, situated between the American Horse and the Amphitheater.
Dates: On display through November 1, 2026.
Admission: Included with standard garden admission (though indoor companion exhibits like Radiant Forms require timed tickets). 

Artwork Characteristics

Design: Combines rich, speckled trumpet-like floral shapes with soft, feather-like vertical glass elements.
Color and Form: Utilizes a striking mix of mottled hues and deep plum tones designed to contrast and harmonize with surrounding live greenery.
Setting: Positioned right next to another prominent Chihuly piece, Turquoise Reeds & Ruby Froggy Feet & Striped Antlers.

Chihuly's Mottled Trumpet Flowers & Plum Feathers is another of my favorites in the exhibit at Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park. I love the colors - the blues, purples, reds, and greens - and the speckled look of the colors, I love how the "flowers" fan out in a unique shape and look - most of the other Chihuly designs are either round or tall. I love where it is located - I pretty much love everything about this piece!
