grandma's movie reviews , , , The Great Mouse Detective

I loved this movie when it first released - I'm delighted to see it out on dvd. This is a great story; a story which is fun for the whole family! There is adventure, bad guys to defeat and family to save . . . pop up a big bowl of popcorn and enjoy this movie with your grandchildren! It is sure to be a favorite!

The Great Mouse Detective (Mystery in the Mist Edition)
  • Favorite Features -
    • great story is a take-off on Sherlock Holmes
    • great characters, excellent songs throughout and lots of color make this movie fun to watch
    • strong messages about family, friends, helping others and not giving up
    • fun bonus features
Be sure to take a moment when the movie is over and talk with your grandchildren about the different characters in the story and the choices they made. Ratigan was selfish and didn't care about others. Basil of Baker Street is intent on solving the mystery and on catching his nemesis, Ratigan, but as the story goes along, he comes to truly care for Olivia and is determined to protect her. Olivia is a determined little girl who loves her dad and wants to be reuinted with him. Dr Dawson is kind-hearted and seems to be committed to doing what is right and Toby . . . well, Toby is a basset hound so he is one of my personal favorites! After all, you can't go wrong with a basset hound! :^) Talk with your grandchildren about how the choices we make affect others and ask them which character, in their opinion, made the best choices!

Enjoy this movie - it is a lot of fun!
